  • Luxembourg has eight youth hostels open and 945 bed places in 2025.
  • A night costs €30 to €40 with breakfast and bed linen, as of September 2026.
  • Without a Hostelling International card you pay a €4 pass per night; with one, €4 less.
  • There's no age limit and no guest kitchen.

I recommend them more than people expect. They're cheap for the country, include breakfast, give families a private room, and some are in spots no hotel can match, like Lultzhausen right on the lakeshore or the city hostel below the Bock.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 To save money

With a card, €4 less every night

The online rate is the non-member one. Show a Hostelling International card on arrival and they refund the difference, €4 per adult per night. Without one, you pay a €4 pass per night.

    Lultzhausen, right on the shore

The hostel sits directly on the Upper Sûre lake, with a large beach and canoe, kayak and paddleboard hire.

  3. 03 My tip

    No guest kitchen

The network no longer has kitchens for guests and doesn't allow cooking in rooms. Eat at its Melting Pot restaurant, with a full meal for €15 to €17, or eat out.

  4. 04 Getting there

    24-hour reception in just two

Only the Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette hostels have 24-hour reception. At Vianden, Larochette, Lultzhausen and Remerschen check-in is 5pm to 10pm; let them know if you'll be later.

What I would book

My ranking, scored

Luxembourg's youth hostels, my ranking

My scores weigh up location for a visitor (what's within walking distance or free transport), what the hostel offers and value for money on the published rates. It's my opinion, not an official rating.

  1. Luxembourg City (Pfaffenthal)

249 beds below the Bock, on the edge of the UNESCO zone, with 24-hour reception and free parking. For seeing the capital on foot, nothing cheaper is better placed.

Price: From €34 with a card

    9.1 out of 10

  2. Lultzhausen

On the shore of the Upper Sûre lake, with a beach, canoes and an indoor play area. In summer it's the best stay in the network.

Price: From €30 with a card

    8.8 out of 10

  3. Echternach

Lake views, indoor climbing wall, sports hall and trampolines, with the Mullerthal Trail starting in town.

    Price: €32 with a card

    8.6 out of 10

  4. Vianden

At the foot of the castle on the Montée du Château. In September 2026 rooms have no private bathroom; the network announced a new building for 2026.

Price: From €30 with a card

    8.2 out of 10

  5. Beaufort

Designed for families, with bowling and an indoor play area, and the castles and route 3 of the Mullerthal Trail close by.

    Price: €32 with a card

    7.9 out of 10

If you think of a youth hostel as a barn full of bunks for students, Luxembourg will surprise you. The national network, a non-profit association based in the capital, says large dormitories are now rare, families get their own room and there’s no age limit. It also publishes its prices, something no hotel in the country does through an official source. That’s why this is one of the few accommodation pages where I can give you hard numbers.

The network, place by place

There are eight hostels open, matching the number STATEC counts, with 945 bed places in 2025. They’re in the capital, in the Pfaffenthal, with 249 beds; Remerschen, next to Schengen, with 138; Esch-sur-Alzette, 122; Echternach, 118; Lultzhausen, 92; Larochette, 79; Vianden, 66; and Beaufort, 62. The one at Hollenfels, in the Valley of the Seven Castles, shows as temporarily closed in the booking tool. visitluxembourg talks of nine hostels because it still counts that one.

The network covers all five tourist regions plus the capital. The Mullerthal has three, Beaufort, Echternach and Larochette; the Éislek two, Lultzhausen and Vianden; the Moselle has Remerschen, and the Minett Esch-sur-Alzette.

How much is a night?

As of September 2026, €30 to €40 per person per night, breakfast and bed linen included. The cheapest are Vianden, Larochette and Lultzhausen, from €30 with a card, and the dearest is Esch-sur-Alzette at €36 with a card and €40 without. In the capital it’s €34 with a shared bathroom and €36 en suite, card holders’ rates.

The pricing has a quirk. The website only shows non-member rates. Show a Hostelling International card at check-in and they refund the difference, €4 per adult per night. If you don’t have one and don’t live in Luxembourg, you pay a €4 nightly pass that makes you a member for that night. According to the network, any card bearing the Hostelling International logo is valid, so if you already belong to your national association back home, bring the card.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Luxembourg before prices climb.

What’s included and what isn’t

Breakfast is included, and compulsory, as are bed linen and wifi. For data away from the hostel, see Luxembourg roaming. Luggage storage is free on arrival or departure day, and in almost all of them you can get to your room at any hour with a key card, because there’s no curfew any more. A twin costs €10 more per person and a single €22.

Towels, hairdryers and soap aren’t included, though you can hire or buy them there. Above all, there’s no guest kitchen and no cooking in rooms. You eat at the hostel restaurant, the Melting Pot, with a packed lunch for €8, a simple meal for €13 or a full meal for €15, member prices. To eat out without breaking the bank, see cheap eats in Luxembourg.

En suite or shared?

It depends on the hostel. At Beaufort, Echternach, Remerschen and Esch-sur-Alzette every room has its own shower and WC. In the capital, Larochette and Lultzhausen, only some do. At Vianden, none, with showers on each floor. The network announced that Vianden would move in 2026 to a new building, the only one with en suite rooms; at the end of September its website still described it as coming, so ask when you book.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Luxembourg before prices climb.

My favourites

The city hostel, for location. It sits below the Bock promontory on the edge of the UNESCO-protected area, with 24-hour reception and free parking. From the airport, the free tram drops you at the Red Bridge stop and the funicular takes you down into the valley, all at no cost; I explain the area in Pfaffenthal.

In summer, Lultzhausen, right on the shore of the Upper Sûre lake, with a beach and canoes. And for walking, Echternach, with the lake next door and the Mullerthal Trail starting at the basilica.

Rules worth knowing

Online bookings go up to seven nights, and you can’t stay more than 30 days a year across the whole network. Under-16s can only stay with an adult. Dogs aren’t allowed inside, only on the terraces. And check-in times vary a lot, from 1pm in the capital and Esch to a 5pm to 10pm window at Vianden, Larochette, Lultzhausen and Remerschen.

Travelling as a family, you’ll want the page on family hotels in Luxembourg, because hostels charge half price for ages 3 to 12. And if a hostel isn’t for you, the other ways to pay less are in cheap hotels in Luxembourg.

If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Luxembourg and choose by the reviews.

A car frees you from timetables: search car hire in Luxembourg on DiscoverCars and compare companies.

So you do not pay over the odds, look at trains, coaches and flights to Luxembourg on Omio and pick the one that suits you.

Frequently asked questions

How many youth hostels are there in Luxembourg?

Eight open, according to the network itself and STATEC, in the capital, Beaufort, Echternach, Esch-sur-Alzette, Larochette, Lultzhausen, Remerschen and Vianden. Hollenfels is listed as temporarily closed, and visitluxembourg speaks of nine by counting it.

How much does a hostel cost in Luxembourg?

As of September 2026, €30 to €36 per person per night with a Hostelling International card and €34 to €40 without, breakfast and bed linen included. A twin room carries a €10 supplement per person.

Do I have to be young to stay in a Luxembourg youth hostel?

No. The network says plainly there's no age limit. Under-16s can only stay with an adult, and 16 and 17-year-olds need parental permission.

How do I get to Luxembourg City youth hostel from the airport?

The hostel is on rue du Fort Olisy in the Pfaffenthal, below the Bock. From the airport, the free T1 tram takes you to the Red Bridge stop in Kirchberg, and from there the funicular drops down into the Pfaffenthal valley. From the upper town, the free panoramic lift goes down too.

Can I use my YHA card in Luxembourg?

Cards bearing the Hostelling International logo are valid at all affiliated hostels worldwide, according to the Luxembourg network. If you're not a member, the €4 nightly pass does the same job for that night.

What's not included at Luxembourg youth hostels?

There's no guest kitchen, no towels, hairdryer or soap in the room; towels and hairdryers can be hired. Your own sleeping bag isn't allowed either, as bed linen is provided free.
