- Casino 2000, the country's only gaming casino, is in town.
- There's no railway station; the free bus runs from the capital.
I wouldn't come to Mondorf to sightsee. I'd come to do nothing, which is what it does best. Half a day at the spa on a weekday, when it's cheaper, a stroll round the park and dinner in town before heading back. For a restful weekend close to the capital, it's one of the best options in the country.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Worth the splurge
Thermal water at 36 degrees
The Domaine Thermal has indoor and outdoor thermal pools at 36°C, saunas and steam rooms. On weekdays, two hours cost €32 as of September 2026.

02 Most beautiful
A 45-hectare park
The spa park, over 45 hectares, is free to wander, with big old trees, paths and the ducks on the Gander stream. visitluxembourg calls it a jewel box of greenery.
-
03 To save money
Free golf with the pass
The Easy-Golf course in the spa park is included in the LuxembourgPass, which also covers 81 attractions across the country.

04 Getting there
No train, but a bus
Mondorf-les-Bains isn't on CFL's list of stations. visitluxembourg calls it easy to reach by public transport, which here means the bus, free within the country.

Mondorf-les-Bains is the odd one out in the Luxembourg Moselle Valley. While the other villages live off the river and the wine, this one lives off hot water. It sits a short hop from the Moselle rather than on the bank, and the name says it all. The country’s only thermal spring rises here, and around it have grown a spa, a very large park, hotels and Luxembourg’s only casino. The commune had 5,524 residents on 1 January 2026, spread between Mondorf-les-Bains, Altwies and Ellange.
The spa is why you come
The Domaine Thermal is the heart of the town and, according to visitluxembourg, the only thermal and wellness centre in the Grand Duchy. There’s thermal water at 36°C inside and out, plus a 28°C freshwater pool, saunas, steam rooms and a large gym. September 2026 prices start at €32 for two hours on weekdays (€35 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) and reach €52 or €55 for a whole day. Under-16s can only use the thermal pool, so it isn’t really a trip for small children. Areas and prices in detail are on the Mondorf Domaine Thermal page.
My tip is to go on a weekday morning. It’s slightly cheaper and the outdoor pool is far more pleasant with fewer people in it.
A park for slowing down
The spa park is part of the health centre and covers more than 45 hectares. visitluxembourg describes it with a very local nostalgia, Sunday afternoons with the family watching the ducks on the Gander stream and walks under stately trees. It’s free to enter, and after the spa it’s the best thing in town. The park also has a simple golf course, Easy-Golf, free with the LuxembourgPass.
The Aviation Museum is here too. It recalls that in April 1910 Mondorf saw the first flight in Luxembourg’s airspace, and its star piece is a 1934 Klemm monoplane. Entry is free, but it was shut for renovation work in September 2026.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Mondorf-les-Bains for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
The casino and after dark
Casino 2000 is the only gaming casino in the country. It has slot machines and sports betting and runs concerts and shows. During the last week of September 2026 its hours ran from 10:00 to 3:00, stretching to 4:00 from Friday to Sunday. It’s on the national tourist board’s nightlife list, but for a proper night out, Luxembourg nightlife is in the capital. The town also has a cinema, the Ciné Waasserhaus.
Altwies and Victor Hugo
Of the other two localities in the commune, Altwies has a curious story. In 1871 Victor Hugo stayed there with his family, and from there he went over to Schengen and sketched the castle tower. If the writer interests you, his house museum is at Vianden in the north, covered in the Victor Hugo House in Vianden.

A weekend from Mondorf
Over a weekend, I’d split it like this. Day one, the spa in the morning, lunch in town and the afternoon in the park with no clock-watching. Day two, head down to Schengen village for its museum and the boat where the agreement was signed, €5 a ticket, and on the way back stop at the Haff Réimech nature reserve at Remerschen, which is free and has a short 2 km loop between the ponds.
Getting there and staying
Mondorf-les-Bains has no railway station. visitluxembourg says it’s easy to reach by public transport, which here means the bus, free inside Luxembourg, and mobiliteit.lu has the timetable. From the UK, that makes it a simple add-on to a city break, flying into Findel and taking the bus out. The tourist office is at 25 Allée St Christophe.
For beds, there’s more choice than elsewhere in the southern Moselle, with 8 hotels in 2025 according to STATEC, and the Domaine Thermal has its own rooms with spa access from 15:00 on the day you arrive. They’re compared in hotels in Mondorf-les-Bains. I’d use it as a base for the south of the valley, with Schengen and Remich a short bus ride away. To the west, neighbouring Frisange has the Baroque castle of Aspelt and one of the country’s two restaurants with two Michelin stars.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Mondorf-les-Bains on GetYourGuide.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Luxembourg: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
Before you fix your dates, compare tickets to Luxembourg: the same journey can cost very different amounts from one day to the next.

Frequently asked questions
What is there to do in Mondorf-les-Bains?
Soak at the Domaine Thermal, fed by the country's only thermal spring, and walk its park of more than 45 hectares, which is free. There's also Casino 2000, Luxembourg's only casino, a cinema and a simple golf course in the park.
How do I get from Luxembourg City to Mondorf-les-Bains?
By bus, free within the country, as Mondorf has no railway station. Times are on mobiliteit.lu. By car it's a short drive south-east, close to the Moselle.
How much is the Mondorf spa?
As of September 2026, the Domaine Thermal's Wellness & Fitness area costs €32 for two hours Monday to Friday and €35 at weekends, with thermal pools, saunas and steam rooms. A full day is €52 or €55.
Is Mondorf-les-Bains on the Moselle?
It's a stone's throw from the river, in the canton of Remich, but not on the bank. That makes it an easy add-on to a trip through the valley with Remich and Schengen.
Is there a casino in Luxembourg?
Yes, but only one, Casino 2000 in Mondorf-les-Bains. It has slot machines and sports betting and puts on concerts and shows. In the week of 29 September 2026 it opened from 10:00 to 3:00, and until 4:00 Friday to Sunday.
Is Mondorf-les-Bains good for a weekend break from the UK?
Yes, if you want rest rather than sightseeing. Fly into Findel, take the bus from the capital, and combine the spa with a day in Schengen and the Remerschen reserve nearby.
