- Bourscheid-Plage is a hamlet of 36 people on the Sûre, in the commune of Bourscheid.
- It lies directly below Bourscheid Castle, about 300 m away as the crow flies.
- Bourscheid-Moulin, with hotels and restaurants, is under a kilometre away.
- The nearest station is Michelau.
Bourscheid-Plage isn't a place to visit so much as a place to look up from. I'd use it as a riverside starting point for climbing to the castle or walking to Bourscheid-Moulin and the Gringlee, and I'd stay in the area if I had two days here.
Before you go
What I would keep in mind
-
01 Most beautiful
The castle, 150 metres overhead
Bourscheid Castle stands on a slate spur 150 m above the right bank of the Sûre. From the riverbank you really grasp how sheer the site is.

02 My tip
Bourscheid-Moulin, under a kilometre away
Upstream at Bourscheid-Moulin, visitluxembourg places cafés, restaurants and hotels by the water, and the Lee Trail's first stage finishes there.

03 Getting there
Trains at Michelau
The nearest CFL station is Michelau, about 1.5 km as the crow flies, and bus 135 stops at «Beim Schlass» by the castle. All free within the country.
What I would book
Bourscheid-Plage is one of those names that crops up on maps and in searches far more than in guidebooks. It’s a small hamlet on the Sûre in the commune of Bourscheid, which the commune groups under the village of Lipperscheid. By the commune’s own count, 36 people lived here in 30 households on 24 March 2025.
Beneath the castle
What defines Bourscheid-Plage is what towers over it. On OpenStreetMap the hamlet sits about 300 metres as the crow flies from Bourscheid Castle, the country’s largest, whose website puts it on a slate spur rising 150 metres over the Sûre, on the river’s right-hand side. From down here you see why the lords chose the spot, since it can only be approached from the north-west. The castle opens all year and costs €7, free with the LuxembourgPass.
Visit Éislek explains how the Sûre has carved deep valleys over thousands of years, with its meanders best seen from the heights. Here you’re at the bottom of one of them, and there’s no better place to size up the castle before the climb.
Bourscheid-Moulin and the viewpoints
Less than a kilometre upstream is Bourscheid-Moulin, where visitluxembourg places several cafés, restaurants and hotels by the water. Walkers on the Escapardenne’s Lee Trail finish its opening stage there, coming from Ettelbruck, and local route BS 4 sets off from there, following the Sûre’s bends, climbing to the castle and carrying on to the Gringlee viewpoint. The Gringlee and the Schleedbësch both frame the castle above the river’s curve, and neither can be reached by car.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Diekirch for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
What I couldn’t find
The name suggests a beach, but I found no official source designating a bathing area at Bourscheid-Plage. In the north, official sources do mention the Upper Sûre lake, with authorised areas, and the Weiswampach lakes, which visitluxembourg recommends in summer. For practical details, your best references are visitluxembourg’s Bourscheid page and the castle’s website.
Where to stay
STATEC counted four hotels or similar and five campsites in the commune of Bourscheid in 2025, generous for a commune of 1,784 people. visitluxembourg lists, among others, Camping du Moulin at Bourscheid-Moulin and Camping Panorama on the road up to the castle, at 17 Schlasswee. Up on the plateau, Lipperscheid, the village the hamlet belongs to, had 306 residents in March 2025. I’d sleep by the river if the plan is walking, and on the plateau if I’m driving.

Getting there
The nearest CFL station is Michelau, about 1.5 km as the crow flies, and bus 135 stops by the castle at «Beim Schlass». By car, the castle has free parking. From the UK, most visitors fly into Luxembourg Airport and then take a CFL train north, which is free in second class within the country.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Diekirch on GetYourGuide.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Luxembourg: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
Before you fix your dates, compare tickets to Luxembourg: the same journey can cost very different amounts from one day to the next.
