Fine dining in Luxembourg

Luxembourg's Michelin stars, one by one

In September 2026 the Michelin Guide lists 12 starred restaurants in Luxembourg. Two hold two stars, Ma Langue Sourit (Oetrange) and Louis Linster (Frisange), and ten hold one, five of them in the capital. None has three. There are also three Bib Gourmands, Michelin's award for very good food at moderate prices.

If I allowed myself one fine-dining splurge in Luxembourg, I'd go at lunchtime and pick a style I can't find at home, such as René Mathieu's vegetable cooking or Le Lys's Luxembourgish food with Asian touches. And I'd book well ahead, because there are few tables and plenty of demand.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 Worth the splurge

    Two houses with two stars

Ma Langue Sourit, chef Cyril Molard's restaurant in Oetrange, and Louis Linster in Frisange, in the family house his mother Léa made famous. They're the country's two peaks in the guide.

  2. 02 Most beautiful

    A star beside the Alzette

Mosconi has served Italian food since 1986 in a handsome townhouse with a terrace by the Alzette. For me it's the starred restaurant with the loveliest setting in the capital.

    the Grund
  3. 03 To save money

Bib Gourmand as a way in

K restaurant (Huldange), Parc Le'h (Dudelange) and Bazaar (capital) hold a Bib Gourmand. It's the cheapest way to eat with the guide's seal of approval.

  4. 04 My tip

Check the guide's own website first

The figures quoted by the tourist board (nine) and the government portal (eight) lag behind the guide. The selection changes every year, so I'd check guide.michelin.com before booking.

What I would book

Luxembourg has a reputation for having an awful lot of Michelin stars for its size, and on this occasion the reputation holds up. What you won’t find is one figure repeated everywhere, because the selection changes every year and the official pages don’t always keep pace. So I went straight to the guide’s own website, and this is what it showed on 29 September 2026.

How many Michelin stars does Luxembourg have?

Twelve starred restaurants. Two with two stars and ten with one, and none with three. The national tourist board still says nine and the government portal eight, both behind the guide. As for the per-head record, the two official sources disagree, one claiming the highest density in the world and the other second after Japan. I’ll stick to what both support, which is one of the highest densities per head of population.

The two houses with two stars

Ma Langue Sourit, in Oetrange (in the commune of Contern), is chef Cyril Molard’s restaurant. The guide describes a small, fashionable room where every detail has been thought through, with measured acidity and classically minded sauces that put the main ingredient first. It even has its own insider code, sticking your tongue out to say you’re enjoying the food, which rather explains the name.

Louis Linster is in Frisange, in the family restaurant his mother, Léa Linster, turned into a destination. Léa won her star in 1987 and the Bocuse d’Or in 1989, and her son now keeps the classic repertoire with a few more exotic touches and a terrace looking over open countryside. If I could only go to one of the pair, I’d choose by the style of cooking I fancied rather than by reputation.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Luxembourg before prices climb.

The capital’s starred tables

Five of the ten one-star restaurants are in Luxembourg City. Le Lys fills the Villa Pétrusse, a house built in 1880 and restored from top to bottom, where chef Kim De Dood blends Luxembourgish cooking with Asian influences. Mosconi has served Italian food since 1986 in a townhouse with a terrace beside the Alzette, and for the setting alone it would be my choice if you’re exploring the Grund.

Ryôdô is Japanese, with kaiseki and bento menus at lunchtime. La Villa de Camille et Julien is built on the finest French produce, with a chef who trained under Joël Robuchon. And Grünewald Chef’s Table is a counter wrapped round an open kitchen where you watch Clovis Degrave at work, whom the government portal names chef of the year for 2026.

Beyond the capital, from the airport to Steinfort

Fields by René Mathieu sits at Findel, in the Airfield Hotel, which makes it the closest star to Luxembourg airport. The guide praises its work with vegetables, herbs and fruit, and the way each dish’s raw ingredients are presented at the table. Archibald De Prince, in Lauterborn, cooks organic with local produce, and its chef was once René Mathieu’s second. Guillou Campagne, in Schouweiler, is classic French cooking, generous with butter and cream, in a stone house with a garden terrace. Apdikt, in Steinfort, occupies a former pharmacy and serves a surprise menu. Fani, in Roeser, is Italian.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Luxembourg before prices climb.

What does a starred meal cost?

Michelin leaves menu prices off its listings, so any figure I gave you would be guesswork. What it does is grade every restaurant with euro symbols from one to four. Ten of the twelve starred restaurants carry the top grade, €€€€, and only La Villa de Camille et Julien and Apdikt drop to €€€. Among the Bib Gourmands, Parc Le’h and Bazaar are €€ and K restaurant €€€. It isn’t a tariff, but it helps you calibrate before you look at each restaurant’s own menu.

Is it worth it, and how would I do it?

I think Luxembourg is a good place for the splurge, because fine dining here is part of local life rather than a hotel experience. I’d go at lunchtime, in daylight and with no rush to get back, and book well in advance, as tables are few. If the budget won’t stretch, the guide still backs three cheaper tables, its Bib Gourmands (Bazaar in the capital, Parc Le’h in Dudelange and K restaurant up in Huldange). For every other kind of meal, see where to eat in Luxembourg, and for spending sensibly, is Luxembourg expensive.

If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Luxembourg and choose by the reviews.
