Stadtbredimus is a commune in the canton of Remich, on the Luxembourg Moselle, with 2,023 residents on 1 January 2026 across Stadtbredimus, Greiveldange and Huettermuehle. Its riverside castle houses the Vinsmoselle cooperative cellars, beside a weir and lock. Greiveldange, in the valley behind, is a wine village with a rural festival on 15 August.

  • Stadtbredimus is a Moselle commune of 2,023 people in three localities.
  • Its castle houses the Vinsmoselle cooperative cellars, beside the river lock.
  • The 1.75 km heritage trail takes in Batty Weber's birthplace and the poet Dicks's grave.
  • The Picadilly wine festival falls on the second weekend of August.

Stadtbredimus suits a short, well-planned stop. I'd walk the village heritage trail, which is under two kilometres, then head up through the vines to Greiveldange. If you're around for Picadilly in August, try the blackcurrant wine, as it's only poured that weekend.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 Most beautiful

    A castle full of wine

Stadtbredimus castle houses the Vinsmoselle cooperative cellars, according to the official Greiveldange mountain bike route, which also points out the weir and lock.

  2. 02 My tip

The heritage trail in half an hour

It's 1.75 km from the castle, past the wash house, journalist Batty Weber's birthplace, the poet Dicks's grave and the Roman bridge monument.

  3. 03 Worth the splurge

Picadilly, a drink that exists for one weekend

At the Picadilly festival, on the second weekend of August, they serve a sweet, sparkling mix of wine and blackcurrant you won't find the rest of the year.

  4. 04 Getting there

    Between Remich and Wormeldange

Stadtbredimus sits on the wine road just north of Remich. There's no station, so come by bus, which is free within Luxembourg.

    Remich

What I would book

Stadtbredimus is one of those places you glimpse from the wine road between Remich and Wormeldange and ought to pull over for. The regional tourist office sums it up as a castle, a lock and a cooperative cellar, and that’s a fair summary. The commune had 2,023 residents on 1 January 2026, covers 10.17 km² and has three official localities, Stadtbredimus, Greiveldange and Huettermuehle, in the heart of the Luxembourg Moselle valley.

Castle, cellars and lock

By the river stands the castle, which the official Greiveldange mountain bike route describes as home to the Domaines Vinsmoselle cooperative cellars. The same listing mentions the Moselle weir and lock, both easy to see from the bank. Pleasure boats out of Remich come past, and some trips include going through the lock, which I cover under Moselle river cruises.

A short stroll with two writers

The heritage trail is the best thing here if you’re passing through. It’s a near-flat 1.75 km from the castle, taking in the public wash house, the birthplace of the journalist and columnist Batty Weber, the grave of the poet Dicks, the cooperative building and the Roman bridge monument. Half an hour gives you a feel for the place without setting foot in a museum.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Remich before prices climb.

Greiveldange, over the hill

Greiveldange turns its back on the river. The regional office places it in a green valley away from the Moselle and bills it as a village of quality wine, with Vinsmoselle vineyards and a monument to the former minister Paul Eyschen. Its themed trail has 16 boards on village history, the old lime kiln and its round layout, with views of the vine slopes and the limestone crags of the valley.

To link it with Stadtbredimus, visitluxembourg’s circular walk covers 9.26 km in about two and a half hours through the Briedemësser woods, Greiveldange and Hëttermillen. The commune’s own site quotes a different 12.14 km route, so check the board at the start. By bike, the 22 km Greiveldange mountain bike trail runs via Lenningen and drops down to Stadtbredimus.

August belongs to the festivals

August is the month to be here. The second weekend brings Picadilly, the Stadtbredimus wine festival, with a wine and crémant bar, concerts and a food village, plus its blackcurrant wine, which the government portal says you’ll only find then. In 2026 it ran from 7 to 9 August. On 15 August, Greiveldange holds the Leiffraweschdag, a rural fête with Luxembourg food and old-fashioned games. For the other dates on the Moselle, see Luxembourg wine festivals.

For a bed, STATEC counted a single hotel in the commune in 2025. I’d stay in Remich, which is practically next door, and come up by the free bus, as the village has no station. The Moselle wine road links the two in a matter of minutes.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Remich before prices climb.

If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Remich and choose by the reviews.

A car frees you from timetables: search car hire in Luxembourg on DiscoverCars and compare companies.

So you do not pay over the odds, look at trains, coaches and flights to Luxembourg on Omio and pick the one that suits you.
