  • Caves St Martin is a crémant house with almost 1 km of galleries in the rock, on the edge of Remich.
  • You can only visit on a guided tour of about 45 minutes, from mid-March to mid-December.
  • As of September 2026 it opens Wednesday to Sunday, from €9 or free with the LuxembourgPass.
  • It's 12 °C inside all year, so take a jumper.

If you only go into one cellar on the whole Moselle, make it this one. Not just for the wine but for the setting. Walking into almost a kilometre of galleries inside the rock is what turns a tasting into a visit you remember. Bring a jumper even on a hot day.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 To save money

    Free with the LuxembourgPass

The pass covers the traditional tour with a one-glass tasting. If you've bought a one or multi-day pass, this is one of the visits where it pays for itself fastest.

  2. 02 My tip

    A steady, damp 12 degrees

The official listing itself recommends warm clothes, because the galleries sit at 12 °C all year. Lovely in August; in November, wrap up.

  3. 03 Getting there

    Free parking by the river

There's free public parking on the banks of the Moselle and a disabled bay beside the entrance. From Remich's promenade it's a walk along the river.

    Remich

Some cellars you visit for the wine, others for the place. Caves St Martin belongs to the second kind, which is why I put it ahead of any other on the Moselle. It sits on the edge of Remich, the pearl of the river as the national tourist board calls it, and what sets it apart is underground.

A kilometre inside the limestone

The galleries run for almost a kilometre and were dug into a huge limestone mass, according to visitmoselle’s listing. Inside, the temperature stays at 12 degrees all year, with the damp a sparkling wine likes while it rests. That’s the appeal. You don’t see an industrial shed full of tanks, you see tunnels in the rock lined with bottles.

The official listing warns you to bring something warm, and I’d take that seriously even in midsummer. After the tour you come up to terraces over the Moselle, and the contrast between the chill below and the sun above is part of the fun.

What the tour is like

You can only go into the cellars with a guide, from mid-March to mid-December. Tours last about 45 minutes, there are five different ones and they run in several languages; the listing doesn’t say which, so ask for English when you book. All of them go through the galleries and finish in the tasting and sales room. As of September 2026 it opened Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 until noon and again from 13:00 until 17:30, with Monday and Tuesday closed.

On price, visitmoselle’s online booking starts at €9 per person, and the traditional tour with one glass is free with the LuxembourgPass. If you already have the pass, this is one of the best-value things you can do in the valley. If not, I’d book before turning up, because groups fill the slots.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Remich before prices climb.

What’s in the glass

The house specialities, according to its listing, are Crémant de Luxembourg, Chardonnay and Saint-Laurent, a red you don’t often meet in a white-wine country. It farms 23 hectares and has a shop and a wine bar with restaurant, the Pavillon St Martin. Why the local fizz is worth your attention is on Crémant de Luxembourg.

Getting there

The cellar is at 53 Route de Stadtbredimus, on the northern edge of Remich. From the riverside promenade you can walk, and drivers have free public parking on the banks of the Moselle, with a disabled bay by the entrance and accessible toilets. Remich has no railway station, so from the capital you come by bus, free inside the country.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Remich before prices climb.

What to pair it with

My plan would be a morning walk round Remich, St Martin late morning or early afternoon, and a boat on the river afterwards. To compare with another big house, Bernard-Massard is further north in Grevenmacher and is also on the pass. Both, with the other cellars and walks, are laid out on the Luxembourg Moselle wine route. And if the weather holds, the Luxembourg Moselle Valley has plenty more within a few kilometres.

If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Caves St Martin and choose by the reviews.

A car frees you from timetables: search car hire in Luxembourg on DiscoverCars and compare companies.

So you do not pay over the odds, look at trains, coaches and flights to Luxembourg on Omio and pick the one that suits you.
