Festivals, celebrations and bank holidays
Kosovo's calendar, limited to what has an official date
Kosovo has only a handful of events with official dates, and they are easy to plan around. DokuFest takes over Prizren in August (7 to 15 August in 2026), the Sunny Hill Festival runs near Pristina at the end of July, and on 17 February, Independence Day, the Newborn monument gets repainted. Public holidays fill in the rest.

- DokuFest in Prizren ran from 7 to 15 August 2026.
- The Sunny Hill Festival took place near Pristina from 31 July to 2 August 2026.
- On 17 February, Independence Day, the Newborn monument is repainted.
- Kosovo has 11 public holidays; Bajram and Easter move each year.
If I were timing a trip around one event, it would be DokuFest. A film festival with 25 editions behind it, in a town like Prizren, is to my mind the best reason to go in August.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Most beautiful
DokuFest, documentary film in Prizren
The festival held its 25th edition from 7 to 15 August 2026 and announced its winners on 26 August, according to its website. No dates for 2027 yet.
DokuFest -
02 Worth the splurge
Sunny Hill, music 15 minutes from Pristina
It is held at Bërnicë e Poshtme. Its website reproduces a press report dating the 2026 edition to 31 July to 2 August, with three-day passes from €110.

Pristina's giant-letter monument is repainted every Independence Day, according to the municipality's tourist map.

04 My tip
Bajram and Easter move every year
The government sets the moveable religious holidays by separate decision. The 2027 dates had not been published on 11-10-2026.

What I would book
- Places to stayBooking.com Hotels in Prizren for DokuFest The town fills up in August for the festival; booking early is the only way to stay near the screenings.
- Places to stayBooking.com Hotels in Pristina for Sunny Hill The site is about 15 minutes from the city, so Pristina is the natural base for the festival.
An events calendar is only any use if the dates are real. So you will not find village fêtes with made-up days here, or fairs nobody has announced. Everything below has a date published by the organisers or the government, and where there is no date I say so.
August in Prizren, DokuFest
If I had to time a trip around one event, it would be this one. DokuFest is Prizren’s documentary film festival, and in 2026 it held its 25th edition from 7 to 15 August, according to its website, which announced the winners on 26 August. There are no dates for 2027 yet, so I am not giving any. What I will say is that if you go, book Prizren very early, because August is already the busiest month of the year before you add a festival to it.
End of July, Sunny Hill
The Sunny Hill Festival is the big music festival here. The organisers hold it at Bërnicë e Poshtme, about a 15-minute drive from Pristina, and according to their website the 2026 edition ran from 31 July to 2 August, with three-day passes from €165 and a free shuttle from the railway station. If you are flying from the UK for it, budget for changing pounds into euros, which is the currency used here. For 2027 there is, for now, only a “see you next year”.

17 February
Independence Day is a public holiday with a ritual that, to me, is the most striking sight of the Pristina winter. The municipality’s tourist map explains that the Newborn monument, the giant letters put up for 17 February 2008, is repainted on that day every year. What opens and what closes, on the other hand, is not published by any official source I have read. More in Kosovo Independence Day.
Public holidays, the other calendar
Law 03/L-064 sets 11 official holidays. Seven have fixed dates (New Year takes up two days) and four move every year, the first day of each Bajram and the two Easters, which in 2025 fell on the same day. The government sets the religious holidays by separate decision, according to the draft school calendar published for consultation. The 2027 dates are not out yet, and I am not going to work them out myself. The full list and the practical side of each are in Kosovo public holidays.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Prizren and pick one that fits your day.
What has no date
I looked for municipal festivals, fairs and wine festivals in Rahovec, and found none with a date in an official source. They may well exist and be announced on social media or posters, but I cannot give you a day I have not seen published. If you would rather choose a month for its atmosphere than for a particular event, see best time to visit Kosovo, and for July and August, Kosovo in summer.
