    Travelling September to November

Autumn in Kosovo, from September to November

Autumn is, for me, the best season to see Kosovo. September 2025 had 64,726 overnight guests, nearly 28,000 fewer than August, with a 34.2°C high in Pristina in 2024. October eases to 25.7°C and by November nights are below freezing (-7.1°C in 2024). It rains or snows on about 10 days a month in September and October.

    • September is the best autumn month and, for me, the best of the year.
    • September 2025 had 64,726 overnight guests, nearly 28,000 fewer than August.
    • October eases to a 25.7°C high and November brings frosty nights.
    • It rains or snows on about 10 days a month in September and October.

September for the whole territory, mountains included. October if towns and the odd walk are enough. November is half winter already, with short days and nights below zero.

      September, my favourite month

A 34.2°C high in Pristina in 2024, about 10 days of rain or snow on average and nearly 28,000 fewer overnight guests than August 2025.

    What I would book

Ask me for one season to visit Kosovo and I will say autumn, and September in particular. That is not a hunch. It is what jumps out when you put Pristina’s temperatures next to the monthly guest figures from the statistics agency.

    September, the sweet spot

In September 2024 Pristina recorded a high of 34.2°C and a low of 4.2°C. It is still hot at midday, but mornings and evenings are another story. My average for 2003 to 2024 comes to about 9.8 days of rain or snow, barely more than July. And in 2025 the month had 64,726 overnight guests, nearly 28,000 fewer than August. For me that is the best combination of the year, because you can do towns and mountains on one trip without battling either the heat or the crowds. It also falls after the UK school holidays, if that matters to you. To compare it with every other month, see best time to visit Kosovo.

    October, calmer and cooler

October 2024 topped out at 25.7°C and the low brushed zero, at 0.4°C. Rain or snow days hold at about 9.9. Guest numbers dip only a little, to 60,737 in 2025, but you notice it in the mountains. For me it is a month for unhurried towns and shorter walks, with a proper jacket in the bag for the evenings. If heritage is your thing, it is a good time for the old town of Prizren.

    November, nearly winter

By November the official table shows a low of -7.1°C in Pristina and about 11.5 days of rain or snow. I would not rule it out, but I would not sell it as autumn either. One curious detail from 2025 is that the Prizren region had more overnight guests in November (13,192) than in October (11,887), while the mountain region of Peja fell to 10,948. To me that says November is for towns, not summits. The cold in detail is in weather in Kosovo.

    Vines in the Rahovec valley

Autumn is grape season, and in Kosovo that means the Rahovec valley. The Stone Castle winery says on its website that it has 700 hectares of vines on the valley’s hills, at 330 to 550 metres. What I have not found, there or in any official source, are harvest dates or wine festivals with a fixed day, so I am not promising anything. What I would suggest is a detour to Velika Hoča, about 5 km from Rahovec, with its small wineries, and Zočište Monastery, a little over 2 km from the village. The winery’s story and what it sells are in Kosovo wine.

    What changes in the mountains

The wildfire risk gov.uk mentions lasts until October, so the summer precautions still apply in September. From October, with lows near freezing on the plain, the high ground starts to call for proper kit. I would do the long walks in September, keep October for shorter ones, and check the forecast the day before either way, as you would before heading up in Snowdonia.
