Pristina to Prizren, 84 km and 1 h 11 min

Distances in Kosovo, town to town and out to the borders

Distances in Kosovo are short. Pristina to Prizren is 84 km by road, an hour and eleven minutes by car on OpenStreetMap routing, and nearly every town is within an hour and a half of the capital. The long drives are the ones out of Kosovo, from 97 km to Skopje to 256 km to Tirana.

With distances like these, I wouldn't change hotels every night. Two bases, one in Pristina or Prizren and one in Peja, cover nearly all of Kosovo with out-and-back day trips.

What I would keep in mind

    1. 01 Getting there

      Everything within 90 minutes

From Pristina, Prizren, Peja, Gjakova, Mitrovica, Ferizaj and Gjilan are all under an hour and a half by car, by OpenStreetMap routing.

      The tight western cluster

Peja, Deçan, Gjakova and Prizren sit close together. Peja to Deçan is 14 km and Gjakova to Prizren 36 km.

    3. 03 My tip

      Mountains take longer

These are car times without stops. Gov.uk warns rural roads are in worse condition and prone to landslides, so add slack in the hills.

      driving in Kosovo

If one number sums up travelling in Kosovo, it’s this one. Pristina to Prizren, the two towns almost everyone visits, is 84 km and an hour and eleven minutes by car. Kosovo covers 10,905 km² according to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, and that keeps internal distances short.

    Where these figures come from

There’s no official table of road distances, so I’ve calculated them with the OSRM routing engine on OpenStreetMap data, centre to centre, on 10 October 2026. They’re driving times without stops, traffic or border waits. By coach, with stops along the way, allow longer, and the same in the mountains, because gov.uk describes rural roads as in poorer condition and warns of landslides. Road conditions are covered in driving in Kosovo.

    Distances from Pristina

From the capital, almost everything is within an hour and a half. Gračanica is 10 km away, Mitrovica 41, Ferizaj 46, Gjilan 50, Prizren 84, Peja 85 and Gjakova 89. The furthest points inside Kosovo are the mountainous south and west, with Dragash at 112 km and Bogë, in Rugova, at 113 km and nearly two hours, the last stretch already in Rugova.

    The west, all close together

Out west, the distances become almost comic. Peja to Deçan is 14 km, Deçan to Junik 10, Peja to Gjakova 36 and Gjakova to Prizren another 36. That puts the Patriarchate of Peć, Visoki Dečani and Gjakova’s bazaar within one unhurried day. It’s the backbone of my Kosovo road trip.

One quirk of the calculation is worth mentioning. Prizren to Peja direct is 98 km, but adding up the legs via Gjakova and Deçan gives 72 km (36, 22 and 14). The scenic version with stops isn’t just nicer, it’s shorter on paper.

    The east and the south

In the east, Gjilan is 22 km from Novo Brdo and 92 km from Skopje. In the south, Ferizaj is 27 km from Brezovica and 59 km from Skopje, which makes Ferizaj a handy way in from North Macedonia if you’re heading straight for the Sharr mountains. From Prizren, Brezovica is 39 km and Dragash 33.

    And from Britain

For context, Pristina is about 1,878 km from London in a straight line, a figure I worked out from OpenStreetMap coordinates. By road it’s a multi-day drive across most of the continent, ending with local insurance at the Kosovo border because your green card isn’t valid there. That’s why nearly everyone flies, with Wizz Air listing Luton to Pristina, and why the distances that really matter are the short ones once you’ve landed. Flights are covered in flights to Kosovo.

    Out to the borders

The long drives are the ones leaving Kosovo. Skopje is 97 km from Pristina, Niš 123, Podgorica 169 from Peja, Tirana 179 from Prizren and 256 from Pristina, and Belgrade 330. Each has its own page, such as Skopje to Pristina, and if you cross into Serbia, remember the stamp rule explained in Belgrade to Pristina. I compare car, coach and rail in transport in Kosovo.

    Test yourself

    True or false?

    0/3 Pick before you peek.

    1. Prizren is under 100 km from Pristina by road.

      See the answer

True. OpenStreetMap routing gives 84 km, an hour and eleven minutes.

    2. Peja to Deçan is more than 50 km.

      See the answer

False. It's 14 km, about 21 minutes by car, on OpenStreetMap routing.

    3. Going from Prizren to Peja via Gjakova and Deçan adds lots of distance.

      See the answer

False. Adding up the legs gives 72 km (36, 22 and 14), less than the 98 km of the direct route OSRM calculates.
