Getting around Kosovo by bus, with what can actually be checked
Buses are the usual way into Kosovo overland from Skopje or Tirana and the standard way between Pristina, Prizren and Peja. Pristina bus station is in the Kalabria district, 3.5 km from the centre by OpenStreetMap routing. No official source I could read publishes timetables or fares, so confirm them at the ticket office.
I'd buy long-distance tickets at the station the day before and ask there for the bay and the time. It's the only way to get the real answer, because the timetables circulating online come from third parties I can't vouch for.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Getting there
The station isn't central
OpenStreetMap places Pristina bus station in Kalabria, 3.5 km from the centre by road, about eight minutes in a car.

02 My tip
Phone numbers from the council
Pristina municipality's tourist brochure lists three numbers for the bus station. They carry the old +381 prefix, so I'd treat them as a starting point only.
-
03 Watch out
Watch your bag at stations
Gov.uk warns of pickpockets on public transport. Boarding, with luggage and a bit of a scrum, is the riskiest moment.

04 Getting there
Skopje and Tirana by road
Skopje is 97 km from Pristina and Tirana 256 km, by OpenStreetMap routing. They're the two most searched international bus journeys.
Tirana to Pristina
Let me be upfront. Buses are how much of Kosovo gets about, and how plenty of travellers arrive from next door, but no official site publishes timetables and fares I could point you to. What I can give you is where the station is, how long the roads take and how I’d go about it.
Pristina bus station
OpenStreetMap places Pristina bus station in the Kalabria district, south-west of the centre, 3.5 km by road, about eight minutes by car. From the airport it’s 15.5 km. Pristina municipality’s tourist brochure lists three phone numbers for the station, but they use the old +381 prefix and the text was put together by a working group set up in 2018, so I wouldn’t rely on them for anything urgent.
For a sense of scale, the Kosovo Agency of Statistics counted 2,616 registered buses in 2024, against 1,117 in 2011. It doesn’t say how many run scheduled services.
Within Kosovo
Distances are short. Prizren is 84 km from Pristina, Peja 85, Gjakova 89 and Mitrovica 41, by OpenStreetMap routing, by car and without stops. A bus calling at towns along the way will take longer. I compare bus, car and train for travel inside the territory in transport in Kosovo, and the full figures are in distances in Kosovo.
Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Pristina before prices climb.
From Skopje and Tirana
These are the two international routes people search for most. Skopje is 97 km from Pristina and Tirana 256 km, by OpenStreetMap routing, with a border in both cases, where gov.uk warns of delays in summer and around festive periods. The detail is in Skopje to Pristina and Tirana to Pristina.
Buses and the Serbian border
The stamp rule doesn’t change because you’re on a coach. Arrive in Kosovo from Serbia and you can go back to Serbia; enter from Albania, North Macedonia or Montenegro, or by air, and gov.uk says you can’t then leave for Serbia through its Kosovo crossings without an earlier Serbian entry stamp. A Pristina to Belgrade coach won’t get you round that, and you could be sent back the way you came. The full picture is in the Kosovo-Serbia border.
There’s another gov.uk notice, updated on 23 September 2026, that affects city and intercity buses. Large gatherings in Pristina, especially in the evenings, can disrupt traffic and public transport. I’d leave plenty of slack if I had a flight to catch.
If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Pristina and choose by the reviews.
How I’d handle it
I’d go to the station the day before, buy the ticket at the office and ask which bay. I’d carry euros in cash, and keep my passport handy if the route crosses a border. Boarding, with bags and a bit of jostling, I’d keep an eye on my rucksack, because gov.uk warns of pickpockets on public transport. And if an international coach gets into Pristina after dark, I’d book somewhere nearby and pick the trip up the next morning.
Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Pristina before prices climb.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Pristina bus station?
In the Kalabria district, south-west of the centre, 3.5 km by road according to OpenStreetMap. A registered taxi gets you there in a few minutes.
Is there a bus from Skopje to Pristina?
It's the most searched international bus route into Kosovo. I can't cite an official timetable, so check at the station; the road details are on my Skopje to Pristina page.
Is there a bus from Tirana to Pristina?
It's the other big one. Tirana is 256 km from Pristina by road, around three and a half hours by car before any border wait, so expect longer by coach.
How do I get from Pristina to Prizren by bus?
From the main bus station. No official timetable is published online that I could read, so ask at the ticket office; by road it's 84 km, just over an hour by car.
Can I pay for the bus by card?
There's no official information. I'd carry euros in cash for tickets, as gov.uk already recommends having cash euros to hand for border insurance if you drive.
