Hour-by-hour itinerary
One day in Prizren, from the bridge at breakfast to the fortress at dusk
One day is enough for Prizren's old town if you start early. My order is the river and bridge in the morning, the Sinan Pasha Mosque, the hammam and the League of Prizren before lunch, Our Lady of Ljeviš and the churches in the afternoon, and the fortress for the last of the light, with dinner in Marash.

- Prizren's old town can be seen on foot in a day if you start early.
- Mornings for the bridge, Sinan Pasha, the hammam and the League of Prizren.
- Afternoons for Ljeviš and the churches, then the fortress at sunset.
- No official opening hours are published for the interiors.
Don't try to squeeze the Holy Archangels monastery into the same day as the old town. If you arrive in the morning and leave in the evening, stay in the centre and save the mountains for another trip.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 My tip
Be on the bridge before nine
The stone bridge, 15th century according to the heritage database, is the hub of everything. Early on it's empty, with the Sinan Pasha Mosque a few steps away.
Prizren stone bridge -
02 Most beautiful
Save the fortress until last
The view from the Kalaja is the high point of the day. Climb it with the sun low for raking light across town, then walk back through Marash after dark.

03 To save money
A day without a single ticket
Every stop on this route can be enjoyed from outside for free. No official source publishes interior prices, so carry a little cash in euros just in case.

One day in Prizren
- 8.30am
The stone bridge
Start at the 15th-century bridge while the river is quiet. It's the point from which the whole old town falls into place.
- 9.15am
Sinan Pasha Mosque
A couple of minutes away, the 17th-century mosque that defines Prizren's skyline. If it's open and you go in, cover shoulders and knees.
- 10.15am
Gazi Mehmed Pasha hammam
The domed 16th-century bathhouse sits close to the centre. Worth the detour even if you only see the outside.
- 11am
League of Prizren complex
The monument complex of the Albanian League of Prizren, listed in the national heritage database. Your history stop of the day.
- 3pm
Our Lady of Ljeviš and the churches
Afternoon for the Orthodox churches of the old town. Ljeviš is UNESCO-listed, with St George and the Holy Saviour a few minutes away.
- 5.30pm
Up to the fortress
Climb to the Kalaja with the sun low. From the top you get the rooftops, the minarets and the river in one frame.
- 8pm
Evening in Marash
Walk down by the river to Marash, the protected quarter upstream from the centre, and end the day there.
Times are a guide, based on the official opening hours checked for this guide.
A day in Prizren works because the old town is small and laid out along the river. You don’t need transport, pre-booked tickets or a rigid plan. What you do need is an early start and the discipline to leave the fortress until last, which is the one change of order that makes the biggest difference.
Why I start on the bridge
Over five centuries old (the DTK dates it to the 15th), the bridge is Prizren’s centre of gravity. From it you see the Sinan Pasha Mosque and the fortress hill, and early in the morning the river is calm. Its story is on the Prizren stone bridge page.
From there, the 17th-century Sinan Pasha Mosque and the 16th-century Gazi Mehmed Pasha hammam are a few minutes away. If a mosque is open and you step in, avoid prayer times and keep shoulders and knees covered, which is simply good manners anywhere.
A morning that ends with history
Before lunch, the League of Prizren complex. The DTK lists it as a monument complex, and it’s the place that explains why Prizren looms so large in Albanian history. More in the League of Prizren page. After that, a long lunch somewhere shady in the centre.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Prizren for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
Afternoon among the churches
I’d give the afternoon to the Orthodox churches of the old town. The one that matters most is Ljeviš, the church UNESCO includes in its medieval Kosovo site. The Cathedral of St George and the Holy Saviour church are a few minutes on foot. No official source publishes interior opening times, so plan on seeing them from outside at the very least.
The fortress in the last light
Around half past five, depending on the season, climb to Prizren Fortress, classed by the DTK as 4th-century Roman. For me it’s the high point of the whole itinerary, the town spread below and minarets poking through the rooftops. Come down while there’s still light and stick to the paths.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Prizren on GetYourGuide.
Money for the day
Prizren runs on euros. The FCDO suggests using cash machines inside banks where you can, checking street ones for signs of tampering and watching your card whenever a shop or restaurant takes it. I’d set out in the morning with enough cash for the day rather than hunting for a machine halfway round.
Dinner in Marash, and what I leave out
The day ends in Marash, the Ottoman quarter upstream of the centre, protected under the Special Zones law. It’s the calmest stretch of riverside for dinner and a wander. If you’re after Ottoman shopping streets, Prizren lost its Arasta in the 20th century and the best-preserved bazaar is in Gjakova; I compare them in bazaars in Kosovo.
I leave out anything that means leaving the old town, such as the Holy Archangels monastery, Prevalla and Sharr National Park. If you have a second day, that’s what it’s for. If you don’t, the Prizren guide will help you choose for next time. Either way, if you’ve come from the UK, sort travel insurance before you fly, since your GHIC won’t help in Kosovo.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Prizren for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.

Frequently asked questions
Is one day in Prizren enough?
For the old town, yes, because it's compact and walkable. What won't fit is the mountains, such as Prevalla or the Holy Archangels monastery.
What to see in Prizren in one day?
The stone bridge, the Sinan Pasha Mosque, the Gazi Mehmed Pasha hammam, the League of Prizren complex, the Church of Our Lady of Ljeviš and the fortress, finishing with a stroll in Marash.
When is the best time to climb Prizren Fortress?
Late afternoon, with the sun low. There are no official opening hours, so go while there's light and come down before full dark.
Do I need a car in Prizren?
Not for the old town. Every stop on this route is a short walk from the stone bridge.
Can I do Prizren as a day trip?
You can, but I'd rather sleep there. Day-trippers miss the empty morning streets and the riverside in the evening, which are the best parts.
