Planica
The Slovenia events with published dates until spring 2027 are St Martin's Day and the new-wine festivals in November, Ljubljana's festive December (27 November 2026 to 14 January 2027), the Kurentovanje carnival in Ptuj (3 to 9 February 2027) and the Planica ski flying (18 to 21 March 2027). I only list dates from the organiser or the Slovenian Tourist Board.
If you only read this
Full read: 2 min
- November is the month of St Martin's Day and new-wine festivals.
- Festive December in Ljubljana from 27 Nov 2026 to 14 Jan 2027.
- Kurentovanje in Ptuj from 3 to 9 February 2027.
- Planica from 18 to 21 March 2027.
If I had to build a Slovenia trip around one event, I'd pick Kurentovanje in Ptuj: the kurent masks look like nothing else, and the town is worth the journey anyway. For an autumn trip, I'd go in November for the new-wine festivals.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Most beautiful
November smells of new wine
Maribor celebrates St Martin's Day on 11 November, and the official calendar adds wine festivals in Štanjel, Koper, Brda and Velenje. The Slovenian Wine Festival takes over Ljubljana on 19 and 20 November.

02 My tip
Dates I won't give you
The Ljubljana Festival, Maribor's Festival Lent and Metaldays hadn't published their 2027 dates anywhere I could find. I place them by season and will date them once they're out.
the Ljubljana Festival -
03 Worth the splurge
Planica from the stands
From 18 to 21 March 2027, the ski flying finale, with women jumping on the Gorišek brothers' hill for the second time ever. Tickets went on sale on 7 October 2026.
Planica
How to do it, in order
-
November: book the wine weekends
St Martin's Day in Maribor on the 11th and the wine festivals in Štanjel, Kranj and Ljubljana fill hotels in the wine regions, so I'd book those nights first.
5-29 Nov 2026
-
December: plan Ljubljana's festive weeks
Festive December runs from 27 November 2026 to 14 January 2027, so any city break in those weeks gets the lights and markets.
27 Nov-14 Jan
-
February: sleep in Ptuj for Kurentovanje
The 67th Kurentovanje runs from Wednesday 3 to Tuesday 9 February 2027; staying in Ptuj saves driving back after the parades.
3-9 Feb 2027
-
March: buy Planica tickets ahead
The ski flying final is from 18 to 21 March 2027, and tickets have been on sale since 7 October 2026.
18-21 Mar 2027
Autumn events: St Martin’s Day and new wine
October 2026 has already seen the 30th Ljubljana Marathon, on the 17th and 18th, and the quarter-century of Ptuj’s «Wine Is Not Water» festival, which ran until the 24th. November is the big month. Ljubljana gives the whole month to food with November Gourmet, Štanjel holds its wine festival in the first week, Maribor celebrates St Martin’s Day on the 11th and Strunjan has its persimmon festival the weekend after. The Slovenian Wine Festival fills the Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana on the 19th and 20th, and in Kranj you can follow the wine through the tunnels under the old town from the 20th to the 29th. For me it’s the best time for the wine regions, as I explain in Slovenia in November.
December and January: Ljubljana’s lights
Ljubljana switches its lights on in Prešeren Square on the afternoon of Friday 27 November, and the festive season lasts seven weeks, into mid-January, with a market and free events. On the coast, Koper rolls its Christmas programme, Fantazima, straight into a month devoted to the year’s new olive oil, starting on 15 January. In the mountains, biathletes gather on the Pokljuka plateau for the open European championships in the last week of January. The capital’s side of things is in Christmas in Ljubljana.
February and March: Kurentovanje and Planica
My unmissable event is the 67th Kurentovanje, which the organisers have set for the first week of February 2027, from Wednesday 3 to Tuesday 9. The kurenti, in sheepskins with cowbells round their waists, are the symbol of Slovenian carnival, and UNESCO recognises their rounds as intangible heritage. On 10 February, the Cankarjev dom opens its 10th Winter Festival. And from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 March, Planica closes the ski flying season, with tickets on sale since 7 October 2026. The carnival has its own page, Kurentovanje.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Ptuj for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
Summer events, still undated
Summer is open-air festival season, but by mid-October 2026 none had announced the following year’s programme. The Tourist Board places the Ljubljana Festival in summer, alongside the jazz festival, Ana Desetnica street theatre and open-air cinema at the castle, plus Bled’s Lights on the Lake, with more than 10,000 candles, and the knights’ tournament at Predjama, with Piran’s Salt-makers’ Festival in August. Maribor’s Festival Lent and Metaldays, where the Soča meets the Tolminka, had no 2027 dates either. I’ll add them as soon as they appear, starting with the Ljubljana Festival.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Ptuj on GetYourGuide.
