Vila Bled is a historic hotel on the south shore of Lake Bled: the former summer residence of the Yugoslav royal family and later of Tito, who received Khrushchev, Indira Gandhi and Nasser here. Today it has rooms and suites in 1950s style, a lakeside park, saunas and boats, a Green Key certificate, and above it Plečnik's Belvedere pavilion.

JGZ Brdo, Vila Bled, and Bled Tourist Board, Belvedere café, checked on 17-10-2026. The hotel website did not show room rates openly.
I'd stay at Vila Bled for quiet and 20th-century history rather than spa days and entertainment. It's outside the centre, so dinner in town means a walk, and in season I wouldn't miss the Belvedere café for the view.

My notes on Vila Bled
-
01 Most beautiful
Plečnik's Belvedere pavilion
On 30 m pillars above the villa stands the Belvedere pavilion, designed by Jože Plečnik as a waiting room for King Alexander's audiences. Tito used it for his tea parties.
Plečnik's Ljubljana -
02 Worth the splurge
Brunch in a rowing boat
The hotel offers a brunch basket of produce from the Brdo estate and the area, with a rowing boat to use on the lake for up to two hours.
Lake Bled -
03 My tip
A free boat to Mass on the island
The island parish takes worshippers to Mass free of charge on the Sinaj boat from the landing in front of Vila Bled. Check the service times first.
Bled Island -
04 Getting there
Same owners as Brdo and Strmol
Vila Bled is run by JGZ Brdo, the state company that also manages the Brdo estate near Kranj and Strmol Castle.

What is the Vila Bled hotel like?
Rooms and suites are furnished in 1950s style, and the hotel prides itself on its food and its calm. Facilities include saunas, boating on the lake and swimming from a private enclosed beach. It holds the Green Key certificate and has charging points for electric cars, with access from the Bled to Bohinj road. It hosts civil weddings and small business events, with the island and Triglav as a backdrop.
One idea I think is well judged is the brunch by boat, a basket of produce from the Brdo estate and the area plus a rowing boat for up to two hours. Room rates were not shown openly on its website on 17-10-2026, so ask the hotel or check the booking box.
Who is Vila Bled for?
People who want quiet and a sense of history rather than a pool, spa or nightlife. It’s outside the centre of Bled, so for dinner in town you walk along the shore or take the summer bus. If you’d prefer the lake’s thermal water and a spot on the promenade, see the rest of the hotels in Bled. And if you like the idea of Mass on the island, the parish runs a free boat, the Sinaj, from the landing in front of the villa.
The Belvedere pavilion
Above the villa, on 30 m pillars, stands the Belvedere pavilion. Jože Plečnik, the architect of Ljubljana, designed it as a waiting room for King Alexander’s audiences, and under Tito it became known as his tea room, where he entertained royals and presidents with tea, cognac and cigars. Today it’s the Belvedere café, and the tourist board notes that many people consider it the best view of the lake and the island. You climb a flight of steps from the path round Lake Bled, and it’s only open in season.

Tito’s residence
This was the site of the Windisch-Grätz family’s mansion. In 1920 it became the summer residence of the Karađorđević family, Yugoslavia’s royal house. After the Second World War the mansion was demolished and the present villa was built in its place, becoming the residence of Josip Broz Tito.
Tito received state visits here, and the villa lists a few of them, Nikita Khrushchev, King Hussein, Indira Gandhi, Gamal Abdel Nasser and Kim Il Sung among others. If that era interests you, the Brdo estate near Kranj is run by the same state company and tells the same story from another angle.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Vila Bled on GetYourGuide.
