Radenci is the home of Radenska, the sparkling mineral water Karl Henn found in 1833, around which a spa grew from 1882 on the banks of the Mura, recording 40,062 arrivals in 2025. The village has 2,237 people (5,064 in the municipality, SURS) and, in one of Henn's villas, the Radenska museum collection.
To me it's the Pomurje spa for anyone wanting something quieter and with more history than Moravske Toplice. I'd taste the water at its own spring, see the Radenska collection and stay two or three nights to visit Gornja Radgona and Murska Sobota.

04 My tip
One pass, several spas
Sava Hotels & Resorts sells an Aquapass giving a day at one of its five water parks, among them Radenci and Terme 3000 in Moravske Toplice.
The spa today
SURS puts Radenci at 2,237 residents and the municipality at 5,064 on 1 January 2026, and over 2025 the municipality logged 40,062 arrivals and 140,031 overnight stays. It lies in Pomurje, on the Mura plain, and shares the region’s spa pull with Moravske Toplice. The tourist board presents it as a thermal and bioclimatic health resort with a modern cardio-rehabilitation centre.
How was Radenska water discovered?
In 1833 Karl Henn was crossing Pomurje late at night by horse and buggy when he heard bubbling by the roadside. His driver told him it was a witches’ brew, and that the louder it sounded, the worse the weather to come. Henn was studying medicine and wasn’t convinced. He went back the following day and found a spring of carbonated water. He had it analysed, and it proved pure and heavily mineralised, according to RTV Slovenia.
More than thirty years later, in 1869, Henn returned to Radenci as a successful doctor and set up a bottling plant. The water, named Radenska, was carried across the Austro-Hungarian Empire in clay bottles, reached the imperial court in Vienna and counted the Pope in Rome as a regular customer. The brand became famous for its three-hearts logo.
RTV notes that the company long resisted plastic bottles for tradition’s sake, that it now uses the water in other drinks too and that it works with PepsiCo. It has a loyal following among water connoisseurs from Asia to North America, and it’s a far larger business than the one Henn founded more than 190 years ago.
From spring to spa
Henn also began building a spa. The first spa building opened in 1882, and several villas followed in the next decades. One of them houses the Radenska Museum Collection, which RTV describes as one of the few reminders of the company’s beginnings. The tourist board encourages you to drink the water at the spring and says it boosts the immune system.

Around Radenci
The tourist board places a floating mill and an island of love on the river between Radenci, Moravske Toplice, Banovci and Lendava, and close by at Veržej the Babič floating mill is still grinding. To the north, Gornja Radgona is home to the first Slovenian sparkling wine, and to the south the vine-covered hills of Prlekija begin, with Ljutomer a short drive away.
Radenci as a Pomurje base
I’d spend two or three spa nights here and use them to visit Gornja Radgona and Murska Sobota. It’s a good base for western Pomurje.
