Skiing in Kranjska Gora, from hotel to piste
- Runs
- 18 on Vitranc, as far as Planica
- World Cup
- Podkoren piste
Skiing at Kranjska Gora means 18 runs on the slopes of Vitranc, from the village to Planica, with gentle gradients for learners and the Podkoren piste, a World Cup venue. In the 2026-2027 season it hosts the men's Vitranc Cup on 2 and 3 January and the women's Golden Fox on 29 and 30 January 2027.
What I would book for Kranjska Gora
Kranjska Gora suits family skiing and learners, with the slopes on the hotels' doorstep. For more mileage, I'd alternate with other resorts; to watch the World Cup, I'd book months in advance.

01 Most beautiful
From hotel to piste via the Snow Beach
The tourist board points out that only the Snow Beach, an area with food and fun for the whole family at the foot of the runs, separates the hotels from the piste.

02 To save money
A free ski bus
A free ski bus links the villages of the resort, so there's no need to hunt for parking by the slopes, according to the Slovenian Tourist Board.

03 Worth the splurge
Watch the World Cup at Podkoren
The 66th Vitranc Cup, on 2 and 3 January 2027, marks 40 years since Bojan Križaj's slalom win. The €39.90 SLOSKI ticket covers one day at one of seven events.

The 18 Vitranc runs
The resort covers the slopes of Vitranc, the mountain behind the village. The tourist board counts 18 runs of varying difficulty from Kranjska Gora to Planica and notes that only the Snow Beach, an area with food and fun for all the family at the foot of the slopes, lies between the hotels and the piste. There are ski schools and equipment hire in the village, and Tourism Kranjska Gora publishes which runs and lifts are open each day. Mojstrana and Rateče have slopes too.
A free ski bus runs between the villages, so you needn’t battle for a parking space.
The World Cup at Podkoren, January 2027
The Podkoren piste is the World Cup one, and the 2026-2027 season brings two dates. The 66th men’s Vitranc Cup runs on 2 and 3 January 2027, the first weekend of the year, and marks 40 years since Bojan Križaj’s slalom victory, with Rok Petrovič second. The women’s Golden Fox, a race that began in 1964 in Maribor and is reviving its historic name, takes place on 29 and 30 January, with giant slalom on the Friday and slalom on the Saturday. From 2 to 4 February there’s also a Para-Alpine Skiing World Cup.
To watch, the SLOSKI combined ticket costs €39.90 and covers one day at one of the season’s seven big events in Slovenia. The family ticket, for two adults and two children, is €79.80.
Cross-country, Planica and the lift pass
For cross-country skiing, the winter trails run from the Tamar valley to Kranjska Gora, and at Planica you can cross-country ski every day of the year. In March the Planica ski jumping final closes the season.
What I can’t give you yet are prices. The lift pass and season dates for 2026-2027 were not published in official sources on 17-10-2026. The tourist board points out that many Slovenian resorts share a common season pass, Ski Pass Slovenia. To see how it stacks up against Krvavec, Vogel or Pohorje, read skiing in Slovenia.

Is Kranjska Gora worth it for skiing?
For a week’s skiing with children or for learning, Kranjska Gora is a safe bet, with everything close by and a lively village. For skiers chasing mileage, I’d combine it with other resorts in the Julian Alps. And if watching the world’s best at Podkoren appeals, the atmosphere on those weekends is worth the early start.
