Ljubljana's airport, Jože Pučnik (LJU), is at Brnik, about 26 km from the centre and around 20 minutes by car. To get into town there is Arriva's public bus, which also runs to Bled and Kranj, shuttles such as GoOpti, licensed taxis with published fares and car hire. The terminal opens from 4.30am to 11pm and expects about 1.7 million passengers in 2026.

    How I would get there
    Sergio Lepone

I'd take the public bus if I were heading into Ljubljana and a pre-booked shuttle if I were going straight to Bled or the coast with bags. I'd never accept a taxi from someone who approaches me in the terminal; the airport itself warns against it.

What the official sites leave out

    1. 01 Getting there

      By bus to Ljubljana station

Arriva's public route links the airport with Ljubljana's central bus and railway station, where it uses platform 28. There are also timetabled buses between the airport and Bled and Kranj.

Tickets on the bus or from the machine

Buy online through the DUJPP portal, from the driver (cash and cards) or at the stop's ticket machine, which also sells Slovenian Railways' IJPP card for onward bus or train travel.

    3. 03 Watch out

Taxis with a visible permit only

The airport awards its taxi rank by tender and publishes the list of firms and their fares. Every car must show its permit behind the windscreen, and the airport asks passengers to avoid drivers touting for fares.

      Ten free minutes for pick-ups

The drop-off and pick-up zone is free for 10 minutes. In the P1, P2 and PH car parks the first 5 minutes are free too.

    What I would book ahead

Before you set off, check this

Ljubljana airport to the city by bus

The public route is run by Arriva on behalf of the state public transport agency. It links the airport with Ljubljana’s central bus and railway station, where it departs from and arrives at platform 28, and there are also timetables between the airport and Bled and between the airport and Kranj. Some buses start at the airport and others only call there on their way to Ljubljana, Bled, Kranj or Kamnik. Tickets can be bought online through the DUJPP portal, from the driver, with cash or Visa, MasterCard and Diners, or at the machine at the stop. The airport warns that times may change with traffic or weather. How buses work across the rest of the country is in buses in Slovenia.

    Airport shuttles and taxis

Door-to-door shuttles are the middle option. The airport names GoOpti, which sells tickets online and at a sales point in Terminal B, and Ljubljana’s tourist board adds Nomago, MNJ Shuttle, Markun Shuttle and ZUP prevozi. For Bled or the coast with luggage, that’s what I’d book. Taxis have their rank outside Terminal B, awarded by tender for 16 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. The airport publishes the list of firms with every element of their fare, the starting fee, the price per kilometre and per minute and any luggage surcharge, plus indicative prices within 10%. It also says you must be able to pay by card or cash, that you should ask for a receipt and that you should avoid drivers who tout for passengers. There’s more in taxis in Slovenia.

Tickets from the Slovenian Railways machine

There’s no train to the airport, but since 21 January 2026 Slovenian Railways has had a ticket machine in the terminal. You can buy the IJPP card, the chip card for integrated bus and train tickets, load it with a bus ticket to Ljubljana and carry on by train around the country on the same card. If you’re planning to travel by rail, it’s the smoothest start I can think of. Trains are covered in trains in Slovenia.

Car hire and parking at Brnik

Car hire desks are on the ground floor of the PH multi-storey and in Terminal B arrivals, with returns in the PH following the signs. If you’ll be using motorways, buy the DARS e-vignette before you join the first toll road. For anyone leaving a car, there are three official car parks, the covered PH with 980 spaces, P1 with 270 and P2 with 420, the cheapest, and the drop-off zone is free for 10 minutes. Hiring is covered in car hire in Slovenia.

    Terminal hours and practicalities

The terminal opens from 4.30am to 11pm, adjusted to the flight schedule. If you’re already inside at closing time you can stay overnight, but you can’t get in until it reopens, and shops and restaurants close. The airport suggests arriving two to three hours before your flight, and the business lounge opens from 5am to 9pm. Which airlines fly from the UK and Spain is in flights to Ljubljana.
