    4. 04 My tip

      Stairs or lift

You can climb 240 steps spiralling round the steel frame, with height markers on the way, or take the lift up to the dome and the deck.

Before you go to Vinarium Tower

What can you see from the Vinarium?

The deck is 42 m above the ground. From there the view runs from the Lendava hills to the Mura basin, taking in plains and hills in Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Austria. Seeing four countries from one spot is rare anywhere in Europe, and that’s the best reason to make the detour.

There are two ways up. You can climb 240 steps spiralling round the steel frame, with markers telling you how high you are, or take the lift, which stops first at the dome on level 4 and then at the deck on level 5. The dome hosts rotating exhibitions of local and regional art, and many pieces are for sale.

    Price, steps and getting there

The tower stands at Dolgovaške Gorice, in the vineyard hills above Lendava, Pomurje’s bilingual town, at 302 m above sea level. The tower’s own website asks groups to address purchase orders to Lendava/Lendva municipality. It has nine floors and a total height of 53.5 m, and no tower in Slovenia is taller, according to the tourist board.

What makes it special isn’t just the height but the setting. All around are vines, vineyard cottages and small villages, with the Pannonian plain opening out in every direction.

    The Vinarium zipline

Beside the tower is the end of the Vinarium zipline, which the official website describes as the only twin steel cable in Slovenia. It’s 528 m long, starts near the Piramida viewpoint and lets two people ride side by side at 50 to 65 km/h. From May to October it runs daily; in March and April only Friday to Sunday; and in November and December only for booked groups. One descent costs €24, or €18 if you’ve already bought a tower ticket.

To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Lendava on Expedia and filter by area before price.

    Café, shop and wine

Downstairs you’ll find a café serving local specialities and a shop selling magnets, herbal teas, lavender products and local crafts. The tower also runs an experience combining two zipline rides with an evening visit and a tasting of five wines paired with food. In wine country like this, it makes perfect sense.

    Lendava, spas and vineyards

I’d combine it with Lendava itself, its paraffin thermal water, a real oddity among the thermal spas in Slovenia, and an afternoon in the vineyard hills. If you’re touring Pomurje from Moravske Toplice, Vinarium makes a good half-day stop. Check the month’s opening hours on the official website first, because they change with the seasons.

If you are short on time, see the best tours in Vinarium Tower and pick one that fits your day.
