Events in Cyprus, the year's calendar
The Cypriot calendar mixes moveable religious feasts, such as Orthodox Easter and Pentecost, fixed national days and town festivals. Here are the ones with dates published in sources I can cite, from opera in Paphos in September to the Christmas villages.
In 30 seconds
Full read: 2 min
- Easter and Pentecost move every year.
- Kataklysmos, Paphos opera and the Wine Festival are the highlights.
- Christmas villages from 21 Nov 2026 to 6 Jan 2027.
If I can choose, I time the trip around a festival. For me the best bets are Larnaca's Kataklysmos, opera by Paphos castle and the Limassol Wine Festival.

03 My tip
Moveable dates
Orthodox Easter and Pentecost change every year. In 2027 Easter Monday is 3 May and Pentecost Monday 21 June.
public holidays in Cyprus
What I would book
A festival can turn an ordinary trip into a memorable one, and Cyprus has several worth planning around. Here I bring together, month by month, those with dates published in sources I can cite, and leave out the rest so as not to give you made-up dates. The full list of holidays is in public holidays in Cyprus.
Winter
The Mount Olympus ski season usually runs from early January to late March, according to the Cyprus Ski Club. 1 and 6 January are public holidays, and between late November 2026 and 6 January 2027 the nine Christmas villages are open, as I explain in Christmas in Cyprus.
Spring
Green Monday in Cyprus opens the moveable calendar; it was 23 February in 2026 and will be 15 March in 2027. Then come two national days, 25 March and 1 April, and Orthodox Easter. For 2027 the Central Bank of Cyprus gives Good Friday as 30 April, with the Easter holidays running to Tuesday 4 May. Labour Day, 1 May, is a public holiday too.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Limassol on Expedia and filter by area before price.
Pentecost and Kataklysmos
Pentecost follows Easter, with its Monday a public holiday, and brings the Festival of the Flood. Larnaca’s 2026 edition lasted six days, to 3 June, with poetry, tsiattista, dancing, shadow theatre and boat races on Finikoudes. I cover it in Kataklysmos.
September, opera and wine
On 4 and 5 September 2026 the Aphrodite Festival brought L’Elisir d’Amore to the square of Paphos castle; see the Pafos Aphrodite Festival. From 26 September to 4 October, Limassol’s Municipal Gardens hosted the Limassol Wine Festival, with music, dancing and tastings.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Limassol and pick one that fits your day.
October, the national days
October brings two national days, Independence Day on the 1st, with a military parade in Nicosia, and Greek National Day on the 28th. In 2026 the island marked the 66th anniversary of independence, as I explain in Cyprus Independence Day.
Other public holidays
Besides the big festivals, the Central Bank of Cyprus lists other holidays, 6 January, Epiphany, 1 May, Labour Day, and 15 August, the Assumption, which falls at the weekend in both 2026 and 2027. Christmas Day, 25 December, rounds off the year.
Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Limassol before you arrive rather than at the desk.
How to use this calendar
If a festival appeals, first check whether the date has been published for your year, as Easter and Pentecost move. Book your room early for festival dates, and check opening times on public holidays.
What isn’t here
Limassol Carnival, 4 to 14 March 2027, and Easter in Cyprus, with Easter Sunday on 2 May 2027, now have their own pages with dates. For other village feasts I give none, because I haven’t found them in a source I can cite, and I’ll add the 2027 editions of the festivals above once they’re published. The village festivals of the south-east, such as those of Deryneia, Frenaros, Sotira and Liopetri, are in each village’s guide.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Limassol on Booking.com and filter by area before price.
