Larnaca or Paphos, peak or shoulder
Flights to Cyprus, and how I'd book them from the UK
Flights to Cyprus land at Larnaca or Paphos. In 2025, CYSTAT recorded 4,950,802 arrivals at Larnaca and 1,924,520 at Paphos, with August the busiest month and January the quietest. The UK is the island's biggest market, with 1,440,003 tourists that year, so you've got more choice than from almost anywhere else.

- Flights to Cyprus land at Larnaca or Paphos.
- August is the busiest month at the airports and January the quietest, according to CYSTAT.
- The UK sent 1,440,003 tourists in 2025, nearly a third of the total.
- In summer 2026, 16 UK airports flew to both Larnaca and Paphos.
- Flying into Ercan, in the north, counts as illegal entry for the Republic.
I'd choose the airport first and the fare second. A cheap seat into Larnaca isn't a bargain if you're staying in Coral Bay. And if I could move my dates, I'd skip August, when the airports are at their busiest.
Before you go
What I would keep in mind
-
01 To save money
Avoid August if you can
CYSTAT counted 892,445 arrivals across the two airports in August 2025, more than three times January's figure. Higher demand usually means higher fares, so May, June or October look like better bets to me.

02 Getting there
Paphos for the west, Larnaca for the east
Paphos Airport is about 9 km from Paphos in a straight line, Larnaca about 6 km from Larnaca. The two are some 103 km apart, so match the airport to your hotel.

03 My tip
Britain is Cyprus's biggest market
With 1,440,003 UK tourists in 2025 against 588,833 from Israel, the next market, airlines put plenty of seats on UK routes. It pays to search your nearest regional airport, not just London.

04 Watch out
A cheap flight into Ercan isn't cheap
Gov.uk says entry through the north is treated as illegal entry by the Republic. You could be fined or stopped at the crossing on the way out.
Ercan airport
Britain is Cyprus’s biggest tourist market by a distance, and that’s good news when you’re hunting for flights. More demand means more routes, more airlines and more airports to choose from. This is my approach, built on CYSTAT’s figures and the seasonal schedule published by the airport operator. The basics of both airports and entry rules are in how to get to Cyprus.
Why the UK has so much choice
In 2025, 4,534,073 tourists arrived in Cyprus, according to CYSTAT, and 1,440,003 of them lived in the United Kingdom. Israel was next with 588,833, then Poland with 373,808. Airlines follow demand, so it pays to check your nearest regional airport as well as London.
Wizz Air, based at Larnaca since 2020, passed ten million passengers there in September 2025, and the Cypriot government marked it with an official event.
UK routes, airport by airport
Hermes Airports, which runs both terminals, publishes a seasonal schedule. In summer 2026, sixteen UK airports had flights to both Larnaca and Paphos, from London to Belfast, Glasgow and Cardiff, and Exeter and Norwich added Paphos-only services with TUI. Gatwick was the busiest link, with roughly 24 to 26 weekly arrivals into Larnaca and 26 to 30 into Paphos, and Heathrow had British Airways to both. In all, Larnaca took between about 85 weekly UK arrivals in April and 127 in August, and Paphos between about 105 and 125. Hermes says the schedule is indicative and subject to change, so check with the airline, and don’t assume every route runs in winter. In summer there’s also a boat from Athens, covered in ferry to Cyprus. The full list is in the table above.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Paphos on Expedia and filter by area before price.
Larnaca or Paphos
Pick the airport by where you’re sleeping. Larnaca handled seven in ten arrivals in 2025, sits right by its town and puts Nicosia, Ayia Napa and Protaras within reach. Paphos is about 9 km from Paphos and is the gateway to Coral Bay and the Akamas. I cover both in Larnaca Airport and Paphos Airport.
Which months fill the planes?
The table above tells the story. The two airports handled 892,445 arrivals in August 2025 and just 273,191 in January. Traffic stays high from April to October and roughly halves in November. Fares have no official source I can use, but given that demand pattern I’d aim for May, June or October, all great months to be there. Month by month, it’s all in the best time to visit Cyprus.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Paphos and pick one that fits your day.
A word on cheap flights into the north
Ercan Airport, in the north, sometimes turns up in search results with low fares. Gov.uk says the Republic treats entry through the north as illegal, and you could be fined, refused entry or exit, or stopped from crossing back. Curious about the north? Fly to the south and cross the Green Line at an official checkpoint.
After you land
Taxis, private shuttles and hire cars are all on hand, and I compare them in airport transfers in Cyprus. Keep your passport handy for the stamp, because Cyprus sits outside both Schengen and the EES. And remember your ticket shows each airport’s local time, as I explain in time in Cyprus. If you’d rather book flight and hotel together, I weigh it against going independently in Cyprus package holidays.
Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Paphos before you arrive rather than at the desk.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Paphos on Booking.com and filter by area before price.

Frequently asked questions
Which UK airports fly direct to Cyprus?
In the summer 2026 schedule from Hermes Airports, plenty. Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff and Bournemouth served both airports, and Exeter and Norwich flew to Paphos only.
Is it better to fly to Paphos or Larnaca?
Fly to the one nearer your hotel. Paphos suits Kato Paphos, Coral Bay and the Akamas; Larnaca suits Larnaca, Nicosia, Ayia Napa and Protaras. They're about 103 km apart as the crow flies.
When are flights to Cyprus cheapest?
I don't have an official price source, but I do have demand. CYSTAT shows August as the busiest month, with 892,445 arrivals in 2025, and January and February as the quietest, at around 274,000 each.
How long is the flight from the UK to Cyprus?
It depends on your departure airport and the aircraft, and I haven't found an official source for flight times. Your booking shows the real figure.
Do I need to show my passport when I land?
Yes. Cyprus isn't part of Schengen or the EES, so your passport is checked and stamped on arrival and departure, as gov.uk explains.
Is Wizz Air based in Cyprus?
Yes. The Cypriot transport ministry marked five years of the Wizz Air base in Cyprus in September 2025, along with ten million Wizz Air passengers at Larnaca.
