A seasonal crossing
Ferry to Cyprus from Greece
Only one regular passenger ferry serves Cyprus, and it runs in summer. Cyprus's Shipping Deputy Ministry organises the Limassol-Piraeus link, which reached its fifth season in 2026 on the AF Marina, from 29 May to 1 September. Boats from Turkey to the north are no way into the Republic.

- The only regular passenger ferry is Limassol-Piraeus, in summer.
- In 2026 it ran from 29 May to 1 September on the AF Marina.
- Pets travelled in cabins and babies went free.
- Arriving by ferry in the north isn't a legal way into the Republic.
I'd only take the ferry to bring my own car or to combine Cyprus with Greece in summer without flying. For a short break from the UK, a direct flight wins on time and cost.

01 Getting there
Cyprus and Greece by sea
The Limassol-Piraeus link was a Republic of Cyprus initiative and ran for a fifth year in 2026, according to the Shipping Deputy Ministry.

In 2026, animals travelled inside cabins rather than in kennels, one of the improvements announced for the AF Marina.

What I would book
Arriving on an island by sea has its appeal, but in Cyprus the options are slim. There’s just one regular passenger line, seasonal and to Greece. Here’s what’s known about it, who it suits and which boats to avoid. Every other way in is covered in how to get to Cyprus.
The summer link with Piraeus
In April 2026, Cyprus’s Shipping Deputy Ministry presented the fifth season of the Cyprus-Greece passenger link, a Republic initiative to offer an alternative to flying. The first sailing left Limassol on 29 May and the last crossing, Piraeus to Limassol, ran on 1 September, with tickets on sale from 22 April. The trade title Cyprus Shipping News reported the details.
The 2026 ship was the AF Marina, a passenger ro-ro with en-suite bathrooms in every cabin and more berths than the year before. Children up to two paid neither fare nor port tax, and fares stayed at 2025 levels, though the announcement didn’t give figures.
Which port you arrive at
The Greece service sails from and to Limassol. According to the Cyprus Ports Authority, Limassol’s new port is the island’s main port, began operating in 1974 and, since January 2017, its services have been run by private operators under the supervision of a regulator. The second port is Larnaca, about 2 km from the town centre and 6 km from the airport, and the Authority says it was decided to turn it into the main cruise and passenger port, a project with no date yet in any source I can cite.
In practice, if you arrive by ferry you’ll drive off in Limassol, with the old town close by and the motorway towards Paphos, Larnaca and Nicosia. To stay near the port, look at hotels in Limassol.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Limassol for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
Who it suits
I can see two cases. If you want to bring your own car or your pet, since in 2026 animals travelled in the cabin rather than in kennels, or if you’re in Greece in summer and want to carry on to Cyprus without flying. From the UK, a flight wins hands down, as I explain in flights to Cyprus. Travelling with a dog? The paperwork is in Cyprus with a dog.
The boats I wouldn’t take
Ferries from Turkey sail to ports in the north of the island. Gov.uk is blunt. For the Republic, arriving through the north means entering illegally, which can bring a fine, a refused entry or exit, or problems crossing back. More in northern Cyprus. The Cyprus Ports Authority itself lists Famagusta, Kyrenia and Karavostasi as “closed ports”, and the ports it treats as open are those in the area controlled by the Government, such as Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Latchi and Zygi.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Limassol on GetYourGuide.
What I can’t confirm
I haven’t found a source I can cite with 2027 dates, exact fares or any line to Egypt or elsewhere. CYSTAT counted 226,886 sea arrivals in 2025, 191,964 of them through Limassol, but it doesn’t separate ferry passengers from cruise passengers, whom I cover in Cyprus cruises.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Limassol: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Limassol for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a ferry to Cyprus?
Yes, in summer. The Limassol-Piraeus link ran from 29 May to 1 September in 2026 on the AF Marina. There's no regular passenger ferry the rest of the year.
Can you get a ferry to Cyprus from the UK?
Not directly. You'd need to reach Piraeus, near Athens, and take the summer ferry to Limassol from there, so for most trips flying is far more practical.
Can I take my dog on the ferry to Cyprus?
In 2026 you could, inside your cabin rather than a kennel. Your dog also needs the right paperwork, including an animal health certificate from Great Britain.
Can I enter Cyprus by ferry from Turkey?
Those boats dock in northern ports, and the Republic doesn't allow entry that way. Gov.uk warns of fines and problems at the crossings.
