Kanika on Poseidonos Avenue
Alexander the Great, four stars on the seafront
Alexander the Great is a four-star hotel with 202 rooms and 406 beds at 14 Poseidonos Avenue, Kato Paphos, according to the official list of August 2026, which gives its rating as indicative. Kanika owns it, like Olympic Lagoon, but here it's half board rather than all-inclusive.

- Four stars in Kato Paphos, with 202 rooms.
- Half board plus, not all-inclusive.
- An adults-only wing, pool and bar.
- Beachside restaurants looking towards the castle.
It's my pick in Kato Paphos for anyone wanting a beach hotel without paying for five stars or being tied to all-inclusive. Dinner by the sea with the castle in view is the best thing about it.

What I would keep in mind

Its beachside restaurants, Seven Orchids and the Limanaki taverna, look out over the sea and the medieval harbour castle, according to the hotel.

Half board with a drink
Half board plus adds a glass of sparkling wine, wine, local beer or a soft drink at dinner, plus a bottle of water for two.
where to stay in Cyprus
What I would book
On Poseidonos Avenue the five-stars grab the attention, but among them sits a long-standing four-star that plays in the same league for location. Alexander the Great is between Almyra and Olympic Lagoon, right on the water and a stroll from the harbour. Below, its register entry, its facilities and why I rate it as a smart buy. The rest of the area is covered in Paphos hotels.
The register entry
The Paphos list the tourism ministry published in August gives it four stars, 202 rooms and 406 beds at 14 Poseidonos Avenue. Like nearly everything on that list it carries the P, so the rating is provisional. Kanika runs it, the same chain behind Olympic Lagoon Resort Paphos, a few hundred metres to the east.
Half board with something extra
There’s no all-inclusive here. The hotel works on half board plus, which adds a drink at dinner, be it sparkling wine, wine, local beer or a soft drink, and a bottle of water for two, or on full board plus. You eat at the main buffet or in the à la carte restaurants, with Cypriot, Mediterranean, Asian and Italian menus. Two of them, Seven Orchids and the Limanaki taverna, sit by the beach and look towards the harbour castle at sunset.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Alexander The Great Beach Hotel Paphos for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
Pools, adults and children
The main pool is an infinity pool with waterfalls, whirlpools and jets, overlooking the beach, and there’s a swim-up bar. Adults have the Serenity pool, a bar beside it and their own wing of rooms, which is where the garden cabanas with private pools are. Children have the Little Monsters club with qualified staff, and there are evening shows in its Havana venue. The spa has an indoor pool, sauna and steam room.
Which room to ask for
The website splits the rooms into six categories. Standard doubles face inland or the sea, there are extra-large rooms for three and sea-view suites for two adults and two children. At the very top is a two-room penthouse of 106 square metres with a rooftop terrace. As a couple, I’d ask for one of the adults-only cabanas, even the one without a pool, for the peace.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Pafos on GetYourGuide.
Avenue neighbours
On the same stretch are the Almyra hotel, a design hotel, and the Annabelle hotel, both five-stars. For an apartment with a kitchen less than a kilometre away, try Pagona Hotel Apartments.
My take
I rate it among the best matches of location and price bracket in Kato Paphos. You’re on the seafront, walking distance from the harbour, the mosaics and the restaurants, without paying the five-star premium or tying yourself to all-inclusive, which makes little sense in an area with so many places to eat out. The mosaics of the Paphos Archaeological Park are in Kato Paphos itself.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Paphos: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
