Makronissos beach in Ayia Napa, with golden sand, turquoise water and blue sunbeds in the distance

July is high summer in Cyprus. The average high is 33.2 °C in Larnaca and 37.5 °C in Nicosia, and the WMO records no rain in Paphos. It's peak season, with 189,730 UK visitors in July 2025 according to CYSTAT, and there are no national holidays all month.

  • 33 °C in Larnaca and 37.5 °C in Nicosia.
  • No rain and no public holidays.
  • Peak season: 589,116 visitors in July 2025.

July is for the beach and not much else. I'd get up early, keep sightseeing for first thing or air-conditioned museums, and skip any countryside walks in the middle of the day.

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 My tip

    Nicosia, early on

With a 37.5 °C average high in July, old Nicosia is best enjoyed first thing or as the evening cools.

    The mountains cool you down

At Prodromos, in the Troodos, July's high stays at 28.6 °C, almost nine degrees below Nicosia.

What I would book

July is the heart of the Cypriot summer. It’s very hot, it doesn’t rain and the beaches are at their best, though also busy. Below is what to expect, based on WMO, CYSTAT, Central Bank and gov.uk figures, and how I’d plan the day. The season as a whole is in Cyprus in summer.

July weather

In Larnaca the average high is 33.2 °C and the low 22.6 °C, and in Paphos 30.6 and 21.6 °C. Inland Nicosia rises to a 37.5 °C high. Rain is practically absent, and at Paphos the WMO gives 0.0 mm and barely a tenth of a rainy day. In the Troodos, Prodromos stays at 28.6 °C, the place to head when the coast gets too much.

Peak season

According to CYSTAT, July 2025 brought 589,116 visitors, 6.9 % more than July 2024, and July 2026 brought 582,754. From the UK, 189,730 came in July 2025 and 185,981 in July 2026. Only August beats these figures, so book your car and room in good time; for getting around, see car hire in Cyprus, where driving on the left will feel familiar.

To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Ayia Napa on Expedia and filter by area before price.

No holidays

The Central Bank of Cyprus holiday lists for 2026 and 2027 don’t include a single day in July. It’s a holiday month without calendar interruptions, unlike June, with Pentecost, or August, with the Assumption.

Wildfires and safety

July is right in the high-risk wildfire season, which gov.uk places between April and October. Spain’s foreign ministry also notes that offences against tourists peak in summer, a topic I go into in is Cyprus safe.

If you are short on time, see the best tours in Ayia Napa and pick one that fits your day.

Getting there

July is well inside Hermes’s summer timetable, with flights from many UK airports to Larnaca and Paphos, as I explain in flights to Cyprus.

What to pack

Light clothes, a hat, high-factor sun cream and water always to hand. For an evening up in the Troodos, a long-sleeved top is enough.

Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Ayia Napa before you arrive rather than at the desk.

Compared with 2024

According to CYSTAT, July 2025 was 6.9 % up on July 2024, and July 2026 stayed almost level at 582,754. Summer grows slowly from an already high base, and July is always one of the two busiest months of the year.

Rainy days

The WMO gives an average of 3.2 rainy days in July in Larnaca, but the amount is tiny, under a millimetre for the whole month. In Paphos, not even that. If it does rain, it’ll be a passing shower that won’t spoil a beach day.

To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Ayia Napa on Booking.com and filter by area before price.

My July plan

An early swim, another at sunset, shelter at midday and a trip to the mountains. If you can choose, Cyprus in June is a little less hot, and Cyprus in August even busier. In July the sea pulls you east, to Nissi Beach, Fig Tree Bay and the rest of the Ayia Napa beaches, ideally first thing.
