Between Limassol and Paphos
Pissouri, a hillside village with a bay below
Pissouri lies about 30 km west of Limassol, halfway to Paphos. The village, home to 2,047 people in 2021, looks out from the Cape Aspro ridge at about 152 m, and below it is Pissouri Bay, golden sand and pebbles with the cape's white cliffs. It has eight waymarked trails, a new viewpoint at Melanda and seaside hotels.

- Pissouri is about 30 km west of Limassol.
- The village had 2,047 residents in 2021.
- Its bay has sand, pebbles and the white cliffs of Cape Aspro.

Pissouri is my pick for a quiet beach with a real village five minutes away and no town around it. I'd stay down in the bay and drive up to the village for dinner.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Most beautiful
The white cliffs
Cape Aspro, whose name means white in Greek, closes off the bay with its pale cliffs. Five public footpaths let you explore them.
-
02 My tip
Eight waymarked trails
The tourist board describes eight routes, from the 3.8 km pink trail down to the beach to the 18.9 km orange loop, four also open to bikes.
-
03 Worth the splurge
Staying in the bay
Columbia, a five-star, and Columbia Beach, a four-star, are on Pissouri Bay according to the official 2026 list.

What I would book
Pissouri is two places in one. Up top, a village on a green ridge looking out to both sea and mountains. Below, a sandy bay with the white cliffs of Cape Aspro alongside and hotels by the water. To my mind it’s the district’s best choice for a beach without a town, and here’s why.
The village
The Limassol tourist board describes Pissouri as a village built on a green hillside, just 3 km from Cape Aspro, with views of both sea and mountains. It sits about 152 m up on the cape’s ridge and about 30 km from Limassol by the A6 motorway or the B6 road. In the 2021 census it had 2,047 residents, and the board presents it as the third largest village in the district.
There are several theories about its name. The board gives the one linking it to resin, «pissa», taken from the area’s pines in Byzantine and Frankish times, and notes that it used to be written Piseeri or Pisuri. In the Middle Ages it was a small port shipping carob, and its stone warehouses survive as restaurants and homes. If that past interests you, Limassol’s Carob Mill tells the same story on a larger scale.
Today it’s known for its halloumi and its Sultanina grapes, small, sweet and seedless. The feast of Agios Andreas is held in September, and there are summer and Easter events in the square and the open-air amphitheatre.
The bay and Cape Aspro
Below is Pissouri Bay, set, as the board puts it, between hills and cliffs, its golden sand mixed with shingle and pebbles towards the centre. It has become a resort with water sports, restaurants and shops, and around it rise the white cliffs of Cape Aspro, whose Greek name means white cape, with five public footpaths to explore them. One photo on this page shows one of those paths running down to a beach with the cliffs beside it.
In June 2025 the Melanda viewpoint opened above the bay, funded by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and designed by an architecture student from Neapolis University in Paphos.

The trails
What I like most about Pissouri is that you can walk. The tourist board describes eight waymarked trails, four of them also for bikes, with marine fossils visible high above sea level. They range from the pink trail, 3.8 km and about 45 minutes from the square to the beach, to the orange one, an 18.9 km loop of around three hours. The Genesis Aphrodite’s Trail links Prolimnos beach with the village in 4.5 km, climbing to about 224 m, with views of the white cliffs. They’re all in the table.
Sleeping and eating
On the bay are Columbia, five-star with 95 rooms, and Columbia Beach, four-star, according to the official 2026 accommodation list, which files them under the Limassol area. I compare them with the rest in hotels in Limassol. For wine, the board mentions the G. Theophanous winery in Havouzas, which generally opens every day, 10:00 to 18:00, and is known for its Sultanina wines.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Pissouri and pick one that fits your day.
Getting there and what to combine
The board gives 25.6 km to Paphos airport and 101 km to Larnaca’s, so if Pissouri is your base, fly into Paphos. From here, Kourion is about 17 km away and the village of Anogyra about 8, both as the crow flies. Pissouri beach and the district’s others are compared in Limassol beaches. Inland, the road leads to the wine villages and the Troodos Mountains.
Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Pissouri before you arrive rather than at the desk.
