Cyprus beaches, the south coast from Kourion to Coral Bay
Cyprus has some of the cleanest bathing water in Europe. According to the European Environment Agency, in 2025 it had the highest share of excellent bathing sites of any country in its report. In the south, Limassol has long beaches such as Lady's Mile and others below cliffs like Kourion or Pissouri, while Paphos offers Faros and Coral Bay.

- In 2025 Cyprus had the highest share of excellent bathing sites in the EEA's European report.
- Limassol has Kourion, Pissouri, Lady's Mile and Governor's Beach.
- Paphos stands out for Faros, 400 m long, and calm Coral Bay.
- The lifeguarded season runs from April to October.
For scenery I'd head to Kourion or Pissouri, with cliffs behind. With small children, Coral Bay or Avdimou, with calm, shallow water. And for space, Lady's Mile, which runs for eight kilometres.

A beach below an ancient theatre
Kourion Beach lies below the cliffs of the archaeological site, 17 km from Limassol, and its steady wind makes it popular for windsurfing.

What I would book
Beaches are the first reason many people go to Cyprus, and I understand why. The figure that convinces me most isn’t a photo, it’s a report. The European Environment Agency puts Cyprus first in 2025 among countries where 95% or more of bathing sites were rated excellent, and every site assessed reached at least sufficient quality. Here I set out the beaches the southern tourism boards describe, with my own preferences.
Limassol, long beaches and cliffs
Limassol Tourism boasts of 16 km of coastline in and around the town. The most striking for me is Kourion, at Episkopi, 17 km away, sand and pebbles below the cliffs of the ancient site, with a steady wind for windsurfing. OpenStreetMap places it inside the Akrotiri base, one of the British Sovereign Base Areas. Pissouri, about 30 km to the west, is a bay framed by hills and cliffs with golden sand and pebbles, and nearby Melanda has red sandstone cliffs and hardly any facilities.
For space, Lady’s Mile runs for 8 km of shallow water. Governor’s Beach, halfway to Larnaca, has white rocks that suit snorkelling, and Avdimou is wide and calm, made for families. In town, Akti Olympion is about 2 km long and 40 metres wide, and Agia Varvara sits beside ancient Amathus. The board also lists Aphrodite Beach, home to Aphrodite’s Rock, where, according to myth, the goddess was born. Each of them gets its own entry in Limassol beaches.
Paphos, Faros and Coral Bay
The Paphos tourism website describes Faros, the lighthouse beach at the western end of town, with 400 metres of golden sand, showers, disabled access and lifeguards for the whole bathing season, from April to October. The town’s beaches with ramps and floating wheelchairs are listed in accessible travel in Cyprus. It is close to the ancient agora and odeon and the Tombs of the Kings. Coral Bay, at Peyia, has calm and shallow water, lifeguards, sunbeds, free parking and rocks for snorkelling. Near this stretch of coast, between Kouklia and Yeroskipou, lie the courses for golf in Cyprus. The rest of the district’s coast is in Paphos beaches.

The east
Ayia Napa and Protaras, with Nissi or Fig Tree Bay, have the best-known beaches on the island, and I cover them in the guides to each area. The second photo is of Nissi. I detail them in Ayia Napa beaches and Protaras beaches, and between the two lies Cape Greco, with its rocky coves. By the cape, Konnos Bay is a sheltered cove.
Safety and the water
Gov.uk notes that bathing is generally safe but that there can be strong waves and currents, and advises following warning signs and only swimming on approved beaches. The Larnaka board gives sea temperatures of 16 to 27 degrees most of the year and claims one of the longest diving seasons in the Mediterranean. On NOAA averages, the water runs from about 16.5 °C in February to about 28 °C in August, month by month in Cyprus sea temperature. I don’t give Blue Flags because I haven’t found the 2026 list in a source I can use. That town’s beaches, from Mackenzie beach to Finikoudes, are covered in Larnaca beaches.

Beyond lying on the sand
If the towel gets boring, there are water sports in Cyprus at most of these beaches, diving in Cyprus with famous wrecks and water parks in Cyprus for the children, with more family ideas in Cyprus with kids. To sleep facing the water, see Cyprus hotels on the beach. For sunset, see the viewpoints in Cyprus.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Limassol: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.

| Kourion | Episkopi, Limassol | Sand and pebbles below cliffs; windsurfing | Limassol Tourism |
| Pissouri | Between Limassol and Paphos | Bay framed by hills and cliffs | Limassol Tourism |
| Lady's Mile | Near Limassol | 8 km of shallow water | Limassol Tourism |
| Governor's Beach | Between Larnaca and Limassol | White rocks, good for snorkelling | Limassol Tourism |
