- Germasogeia is about 6 km east of central Limassol.
- It had 17,329 residents in 2021.
- Since 2024 it has been part of Amathounta municipality.
- It has beach hotels and a dam to the north.
I'd pick Germasogeia for a beach hotel outside the centre with the town a bus ride away. I wouldn't come here for village sightseeing; I'd come to sleep and head out on day trips.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Worth the splurge
A five-star in the area
Royal Apollonia Beach, with 204 rooms, appears as a five-star hotel on the official list of August 2026, in Germasogeia municipality.

02 Getting there
Between the town and Amathus
Central Limassol is about 6 km to the west and the ruins of Amathus about 5 km to the east, both as the crow flies.

North of the dam, near the Amathos river, the tourist board places the chapel of the Apostle Luke, a barrel-vaulted stone basilica with a tiled roof.
What I would book
Germasogeia is one of those names that turns up on a hotel booking and few people can place. Let me make it easy. It’s the strip east of Limassol where the town turns into hotel land, with an old village on the hill and a reservoir behind. It’s not somewhere you’d travel to for its own sake, but it makes a comfortable base.
Where it is and what it is today
Germasogeia sits roughly 6 km east of Limassol’s centre in a straight line, and about 5 km from the ruins of Amathus. In the 2021 census CYSTAT counted 17,329 residents, one of the highest figures in the district outside the town itself. On 1 July 2024 it became part of Amathounta municipality, which according to the Union of Cyprus Municipalities also takes in Agios Athanasios, Mouttagiaka, Agios Tychonas, Mathikoloni, Foinikaria, Akrounta and Armenochori.
The main photo on this page shows the centre of Germasogeia from above, with red-roofed houses, the church and the dry hills behind.
The hotels by the sea
For visitors, what matters in Germasogeia is on the coast. The official accommodation list of August 2026 includes, with Germasogeia addresses, hotels such as Royal Apollonia Beach, five-star with 204 rooms and its rating marked as provisional, and Atlantica Miramare Beach, four-star with 278 rooms. It’s the same strip of resorts that continues along Amathus Avenue, and I compare it with the other areas in hotels in Limassol.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Limassol for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
The dam and the hinterland
About 3 km north of the village, according to OpenStreetMap, is the Germasogeia dam, with its spillway, shown in the second photo. The tourist board places the chapel of the Apostle Luke north of the dam, near the Amathos river, in Akrounta. It describes an old stone church built as a barrel-vaulted basilica, with a tiled roof, a semicircular apse, two doorways and a wooden bell tower to the east, sitting comfortably in its landscape.
I have no official details of waymarked trails round the reservoir that I can quote, so if you go, take a map and water, especially in summer.
Getting to Germasogeia
On the OpenStreetMap map, Larnaca airport is roughly 51 km away and Paphos airport roughly 55. Coming from Larnaca on the motorway, you reach Germasogeia before central Limassol, so it saves a stretch of the drive. For getting about locally there are EMEL’s town buses, whose fares change on 5 November 2026, as I set out in buses in Cyprus. If you hire a car, you’ll be driving on the left, just as at home.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Limassol on GetYourGuide.
How I’d use it
Germasogeia works as a beach base. From here, central Limassol and its old town are a short hop, and you’re well placed for the east coast and the inland villages. The beaches nearby are covered in Limassol beaches. If what you want is to stroll the historic centre at night without relying on the car, staying in town makes more sense. On its coast stands the Atlantica Miramare hotel.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Limassol: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
