The goddess of love's island, for two
Romantic Cyprus: my plans for two
Cyprus has a head start for couples, because it's the island where the myth has Aphrodite born. My plans for two are sunset at Petra tou Romiou, an evening boat trip from Latchi or Limassol, a night in a Troodos village and a day in the wine villages. For a honeymoon, the Limassol Tourism Board suggests exactly that mix of sea and mountains.

- Cyprus is the island of the Aphrodite myth, and its ideas for two show it.
- Sunset at Aphrodite's Rock and an evening boat from Latchi or Limassol.
- A night in a Troodos village breaks up the beach routine.
- Foreign couples can marry in a civil ceremony at the municipality of their choice.
If I had to pick one plan for two, it would be a night in a stone village in the Troodos after several beach days. The change of air, the cool evening and dinner in a village taverna beat any cocktail on a sun lounger.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Most beautiful
The goddess's sunset
Petra tou Romiou, where the myth has Aphrodite rise from the sea, is the place to watch the sun go down together, about 22 km from Paphos.
Aphrodite's Rock -
02 Worth the splurge
A sunset barbecue cruise
From Latchi there's a 16:00 trip to the Blue Lagoon with a barbecue at sunset. For me, the best treat on the west coast.
Blue Lagoon in Cyprus -
03 Most beautiful
A king's wedding
Limassol Castle is where, tradition says, Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria in 1191. A walk for two with a story.

04 My tip
If you tie the knot there
Any couple can marry in a civil ceremony at the municipality of their choice, from 15 days to 3 months after giving notice, or within 2 to 4 working days with a special licence.

Cyprus plays with a loaded deck when you travel as a couple. It’s the island where myth has the goddess of love born, distances are short and in one trip you can go from a cove at sunset to a mountain taverna with a log fire. Here are the plans I think work best for two, with my score, and how I’d string them into a honeymoon. If you’re looking to marry there, it’s all in getting married in Cyprus.
Aphrodite’s coast
The obvious plan is also one of the best. Petra tou Romiou, Aphrodite’s Rock, is where the most famous myth has the goddess emerge from the sea foam, on the Paphos coast. At sunset, with the light going down over the water, you see why the legend settled there. I’d go in spring or autumn, when it’s quieter, and stop first at the Kouklia sanctuary, about 7 km away, to see where she was actually worshipped. The full story is in Aphrodite in Cyprus.
A boat for two
From Latchi, in the north of Paphos district, boats sail to the Blue Lagoon on Akamas. One of the harbour operators runs a 16:00 trip with a barbecue at sunset, passing the Baths of Aphrodite, the grotto where tradition says the goddess met Adonis. In Limassol, the tourism board calls the town the island’s premier sailing destination, with two marinas and firms offering sunset cruises and motor or sailing yacht charters. It even suggests holding a small wedding reception on board a yacht, out on the water away from the crowds, which tells you how seriously Limassol takes the romantic market.
Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Kakopetria before prices climb.
A night in the mountains
This is my favourite, and I mean it. After a few beach days, heading up into the Troodos changes the whole trip. Stone villages such as Kakopetria or Platres, World Heritage painted churches, pine forest and cool nights even in August. The Limassol Tourism Board suggests exactly this for a honeymoon, a change of scenery after the wedding, a few days in a peaceful mountain village or a spa hotel. To choose a village, see Kakopetria.
Wine, villages and Limassol
The other romantic face of the island is the Limassol wine country, on the mountains’ sunny southern flank. Lofou, Vouni, Omodos, terraced vineyards and small wineries. Commandaria, the sweet wine of those villages, has been UNESCO-listed intangible heritage since 2025, and nothing beats it for a toast on a trip for two. The route is in the Limassol wine villages.
If you’d rather have a city, Limassol has an old town with its medieval castle, where tradition places Richard the Lionheart’s wedding to Berengaria in 1191, the old port and the Molos promenade for dinner by the sea. The tourism board also mentions lively nightlife, with bars and clubs, if the honeymoon calls for a night out.
If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Kakopetria and choose by the reviews.
Where to stay as a couple
It depends what you’re after, and in Cyprus the options differ a lot. On the coast, the big hotels in Paphos and Limassol with spa and beach; the Limassol board notes that many have their own wedding chapels and offer honeymoon couples a room upgrade, champagne and flowers. Inland, restored village houses on the agrotourism scheme, which for me have more charm than any suite. Ideas in agrotourism in Cyprus and luxury hotels in Cyprus.
When to go, and my ideal honeymoon
I’d pick May, June, September or October. The WMO gives May average highs of about 25°C in Paphos and 27°C in Larnaca, and 27 to 28°C in October, with evenings warm enough to eat outside. July and August are hot, especially inland, and busier on the coast, as anyone booking over the school holidays will know. Winter has its own appeal for a short break, quiet and green, with snow on Mount Olympus and log fires in the mountain tavernas. My ideal honeymoon would be about ten days. Three in Paphos, with the sunset at the rock and the boat from Latchi. Two in the Troodos, in a stone village. Three in Limassol, with the wine villages and the castle. And the last two wherever you liked best, with no plan at all. For somewhere to sleep, the three fully child-free hotels are in adults-only hotels in Cyprus, and the small stone ones in boutique hotels in Cyprus.
A car frees you from timetables: search car hire in Limassol on DiscoverCars and compare companies.
Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Kakopetria before prices climb.

Frequently asked questions
Is Cyprus good for couples?
Yes. It packs beach, mountains, wine and history into short distances, and it's the island of the Aphrodite myth. I'd combine a few days on the coast with a night in a Troodos village.
Is Cyprus good for a honeymoon?
Very. The Limassol Tourism Board suggests just that, beach days, then a quiet mountain village or a spa hotel, and a glass of wine on the slopes of the Troodos.
What is there to do in Paphos for couples?
Watch the sunset at Aphrodite's Rock, visit the goddess's sanctuary at Kouklia, stroll the harbour and archaeological park, and take a boat from Latchi to the Blue Lagoon.
What's the best area of Cyprus for couples?
Paphos and its coast for sunsets and myth; Limassol for a city, a marina and wine villages nearby; and the Troodos for a night or two in the mountains.
Can British couples get married in Cyprus?
Yes. Civil marriage has existed since 1923, and the marriage officer of whichever municipality you choose performs it. You'll need passports, birth certificates and proof that you're free to marry.
