Where to stay in Cyprus
Cheap hotels in Cyprus, area by area
There are no official hotel prices in Cyprus, but the August 2026 register shows where the more modest categories are. Larnaca has 15 two-star hotels, Ayia Napa 6 and Polis 5, while Ayia Napa and Protaras have dozens of B and C-class apartments. With a kitchen, you also save on meals.

- There are no official hotel prices in Cyprus.
- Larnaca has 15 two-star hotels, more than anywhere else.
- Ayia Napa and Protaras have many B and C-class apartments.
- Campsites and traditional houses are the other budget options.
On a tight budget, I'd look for a self-catering apartment in Protaras or Ayia Napa outside August, or a two-star in Larnaca, which is also next to the airport. Saving on the room only to lose two hours a day getting about isn't worth it.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 To save money
Larnaca, the two-star town
Larnaca's list has 15 two-star and 2 one-star hotels, more than any other area, and the airport is only a few kilometres away.

Apartments with kitchens
Pagona, in Kato Paphos, offers C-class apartments with kitchens, a pool and a jacuzzi, 1.4 km from the mosaics park, according to its website.

03 My tip
Watch for the P mark
Many establishments have a provisional (P) rating in the register while the new classification is processed. Look at the website and photos more than the stars.
where to stay in Cyprus
What I would book
Finding a cheap hotel in Cyprus is mostly about knowing where to look, because no official source publishes prices. What does exist is the Deputy Ministry of Tourism’s accommodation register, which tells you each establishment’s category and location, and from that you can sketch a useful map of the budget end. Here it is, based on my count of the August 2026 lists. To compare with other options, see where to stay in Cyprus.
Is accommodation expensive in Cyprus?
There are no official hotel prices, but Eurostat gives a benchmark. For restaurants and hotels, its 2024 index gives Cyprus 89.0, where the EU as a whole scores 100. In other words, below the European average. What moves prices most is usually season and area, though no official source publishes that. For the rest of the budget, see prices in Cyprus and my tips for Cyprus on a budget.
Where the simpler categories are
By category, Larnaca stands out. Its list has 15 two-star and 2 one-star hotels, more than anywhere else, and the airport is only a few kilometres away, which saves on transfers. Larnaca is also well connected from home, with roughly 85 weekly arrivals from the UK in April rising to about 127 in August in Hermes Airports’ summer 2026 schedule, so a cheap flight and a cheap bed can sit in the same town. Next come Ayia Napa, with 6 two-stars and 2 one-stars, and Polis, with 5 and 2. At the other end, Paphos and Limassol have very few simple hotels and plenty of four and five-stars. There’s more in Larnaca hotels.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Larnaca for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
Self-catering apartments
In the eastern beach resorts, the most common budget choice is the tourist apartment. The Ayia Napa list includes 64 apartment blocks, 27 of them B-class and 6 C-class, and the Paralimni and Protaras list 52, with 25 B-class. In Kato Paphos, Pagona is an example with its own guide, C-class self-catering units with pools for adults and children plus a jacuzzi, 1.4 km from the mosaics park according to its website. A kitchen saves a lot on a longer stay, as I explain in apartments in Cyprus.
Simple hotels with their own guide
Among the hotels with a guide on this site, the most modest are three-stars, such as Limanaki Beach by Ayia Napa harbour, or Tsokkos Gardens and Cavo Maris in Protaras. I don’t quote their prices, because they’re in no official source and change with the date, but here’s what I’d check. That the hotel has a website explaining its facilities, because in some cases, like Limanaki, I haven’t found one of its own. And whether its register rating is firm, marked L, or provisional, marked P.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Larnaca on GetYourGuide.
In the mountains and in Nicosia
The Troodos has its budget end too. The mountain list includes several two-star hotels, such as the Jubilee on Troodos square itself, the Petit Palais in Platres, Minaide’s in Kakopetria and Health Habitat in Pedoulas, plus the one-star Crystal in Kakopetria. They’re small hill-resort hotels, covered in Troodos hotels. In Nicosia, the list has four two-star hotels and one one-star, handy for a few days in the capital.
Other ways to sleep cheaply
There are two alternatives to hotels. Camping in Cyprus, with few sites but well placed ones, such as Polis, in a eucalyptus wood by the beach, or Governor’s Beach near Limassol, open all year. And village traditional houses, which number 84 on the mountain list alone. On hostels the register says almost nothing, with a single guesthouse on the Paphos list.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Larnaca: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
How I’d save
I’d travel in May, June or September rather than August, take a self-catering apartment for stays of more than a week and choose the area for its transport links, because a cheap hotel in the middle of nowhere ends up costly once you add a hire car. Food on a budget has its own page, cheap eats in Cyprus.

Frequently asked questions
Where are the cheap hotels in Cyprus?
By category, Larnaca has the most two-star hotels (15) on the official register, and Ayia Napa and Protaras have many B and C-class apartments.
Is accommodation expensive in Cyprus?
There are no official prices. Eurostat put Cyprus's price level for restaurants and hotels at 89.0 in 2024, against an EU average of 100.
Are there hostels in Cyprus?
The official register barely lists any; Paphos has a single guesthouse. For budget stays, people usually go for apartments, simple hotels, traditional houses or campsites.
Is a hotel or apartment cheaper?
It depends on season and location, as there are no official prices. An apartment with a kitchen, like Pagona's, saves on meals over a longer stay.
Are there campsites in Cyprus?
Yes, a few. Around Paphos there are sites at Coral Bay, Geroskipou and Polis, and near Limassol the year-round Governor's Beach site plus the mountain site at Kambi tou Kalogirou.
