Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 Most beautiful

    A village in its valley

Red-roofed houses fill the valley floor and the slopes around are stepped with vine terraces, as the main photo shows.

  2. 02 My tip

    Taste before 16:00

Ayia Mavri winery takes tastings and visits Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 16:00, at 8 Archimandriti Kyprianou Street, according to the tourist board.

  3. 03 Getting there

    Between Vouni and Lofou

Vouni is about 3.3 km away as the crow flies and Lofou about 3.5. All three fit into a single afternoon by car.

    Vouni

What I would book

Koilani is the Krasochoria village I’d visit for its museums. It’s small and quiet, tucked into the bottom of a valley with vine terraces all around, and in a handful of lanes it gathers both the religious history of the area and the story of its wine.

Where it is

Koilani is one of the Limassol wine villages, about 24 km from the town centre as the crow flies. Of its neighbours, Vouni is about 3.3 km away, Lofou about 3.5 and Omodos about 5. The 2021 census counted 177 residents.

It used to be a big and well-known place. Writing about Vouni, the tourist board notes that in 1881 Vouni was the district’s second village, behind only Koilani. The same profile notes that writers such as A. Sakellariou and G. S. Fragkoudes described the villages of Kilani, the old form of the name, and Agia Mavri, while saying nothing at all about Vouni.

The two museums

The Limassol Tourism Board presents the village’s ecclesiastical and viticulture museums together. The ecclesiastical one was founded by the Bishopric of Limassol to keep and display the parish’s religious art, and it works as a regional branch of the Byzantine Museum of Limassol, with icons and church treasures from the area. The viticulture museum tells the other side of the village, the wine. OpenStreetMap places them next to the church of Monogenis.

The museums’ hours and prices aren’t given by any official source I can cite. I’d ask in the village or ring ahead.

To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Omodos on Expedia and filter by area before price.

Wine in Koilani

Ayia Mavri, says the tourist board, is a family winery in the heart of the Krasochoria that blends traditional Cypriot winemaking with modern methods. It stands at 8 Archimandriti Kyprianou Street and welcomes visitors for tastings, Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 till 16:00. In 2026 Koilani was also one of the five villages where the board installed a photo spot on the theme «The Grape», designed by the artist Georgios Mourouzis. The aim, says the board, is to promote the area’s wine heritage, and in Koilani it sits well alongside the viticulture museum. The winery’s name recalls Agia Mavri, which OpenStreetMap marks as a church north-east of the village.

Combining it

I’d combine Koilani with Vouni and Lofou, which form a triangle just a few kilometres across, or with Omodos if it’s your first time in the area. If you have time left, Lania, already in Commandaria country, is about 6 km away. The main photo on this page gives a sense of the landscape, a red-roofed village surrounded by terraced slopes. For the wider picture inland, see Limassol district. For a bed, the August 2026 register of mountain accommodation lists nothing in Koilani itself, but there are traditional houses close by, in Vasa Koilaniou, in Vouni, with four, and in Omodos, with six.

If you are short on time, see the best tours in Omodos and pick one that fits your day.

Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Limassol before you arrive rather than at the desk.

To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Omodos on Booking.com and filter by area before price.
