Rules and places to stay
Taking your dog to Cyprus
From Great Britain you can't use a pet passport to enter the EU, so your dog needs an animal health certificate from your vet, a microchip and a rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before travel, gov.uk says. Cyprus's Deputy Ministry of Tourism publishes an official 2026 list of 142 places to stay that accept pets.

- From GB your dog needs an animal health certificate, not a pet passport.
- Microchip and a rabies jab at least 21 days before travel are required.
- The certificate is valid for 10 days for EU entry.
- The official 2026 list includes 142 pet-friendly places to stay.
- Kalopanagiotis, in the Troodos, has the most options.
If I were travelling with a dog, I'd head for the Troodos villages. The official pet-friendly list has more places in the mountains than on the coast, and summer is easier up there.

01 My tip
Certificate, not passport
Gov.uk says that if you live in England, Scotland or Wales you can't use a pet passport to enter the EU, even one issued in the EU. You need an animal health certificate.

Certificate validity
The animal health certificate is valid for 10 days for entry into the EU, then 6 months for onward EU travel and 6 months to re-enter Great Britain.

What I would book
Taking your dog to Cyprus from the UK needs a bit of planning since Brexit, but the rules are clear. The most useful thing is that Cyprus’s Deputy Ministry of Tourism publishes an official list of pet-friendly places to stay. Here are the requirements, where those places are and what to bear in mind. The paperwork for people is in Cyprus entry requirements.
The requirements
Gov.uk leaves no room for doubt. Residents of England, Scotland or Wales can’t enter the EU on a pet passport, wherever it was issued, and need an animal health certificate from a vet instead. The microchip has to go in no later than the rabies jab, your dog has to be 12 weeks or older for that jab, and after the first dose you wait 21 full days before setting off.
You have 10 days from issue to arrive in the EU with that certificate, after which it covers 6 months of travel around the EU and 6 months to get back into Great Britain. Check your airline’s own pet rules too. Coming by sea from Greece instead? In 2026 pets travelled in the cabin, as I explain in ferry to Cyprus. On arrival, Kapnos Airport Shuttle says small pets travel free in a carrier, as I mention in airport transfers in Cyprus.
Where to stay with a dog
In March 2026 the Deputy Ministry of Tourism published a list of 142 places to stay that accept pets, covering hotels, hotel apartments, traditional houses and two campsites at Neo Chorio. What stands out is how many are in the Troodos villages. Kalopanagiotis has the most, about 20, followed by Kakopetria, Platres, Lofou and Pedoulas. There are fewer on the coast, around ten in the Larnaca area and fewer still in Paphos and Limassol.
With a dog, I’d head for the mountains, which are easier going in summer anyway. The villages are introduced in the prettiest villages in Cyprus. Among the five-stars, the Almyra hotel and the Anassa hotel take small dogs, according to their websites, while the Four Seasons in Limassol doesn’t allow pets. In Paphos, the Annabelle hotel also takes dogs up to 12 kilos and the Leonardo Laura Beach hotel up to 6.
On the south coast, Columbia Beach Resort in Pissouri accepts one dog per suite up to 15 kilos, for €50 a night with a €100 minimum per stay.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Kalopanagiotis for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
If you cross north
If you plan to take your dog into the north, the Spanish foreign ministry warns that animals coming back south are treated under the rules for animals arriving from outside the EU. Check before you go, as explained in crossing to northern Cyprus.
No official answer
I’m not giving rules on dog beaches or taxis with pets, as I have no official source I can cite. Ask your accommodation. In the north-west, Kato Pyrgos has a dog area on Krioneri beach.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Kalopanagiotis on GetYourGuide.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Limassol: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Kalopanagiotis for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
