Cape Greco, between Ayia Napa and Protaras

Konnos Bay, Cape Greco's sheltered cove

Konnos is a golden-sand cove about 200 m long and 35 m wide on the north side of Cape Greco, between Ayia Napa and Protaras. It's so well sheltered from the wind that it hardly ever has waves, it's ringed by pine trees and three of the park's trails start from it. There are sunbeds, water sports and a kiosk, and several bus routes stop above.

  • Konnos is a sandy cove about 200 m long at Cape Greco.
  • It's very sheltered from the wind and hardly ever has waves.
  • Trails to the Cyclops Cave and Agioi Anargyroi start from it.
  • OSEA routes 101, 102 and 711 stop at Konnos Beach.

I'd arrive in the morning, when the cove is quiet, have a swim and then do the short trail to the Cyclops Cave. By mid-afternoon it fills up and the car park above runs out of space.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 Most beautiful

    A cove without waves

According to Visit Famagusta, Konnos is so well protected from strong winds that the water barely moves, which is rare on this rocky coast.

  2. 02 My tip

    Go in the morning

Early on the beach is calm and it's the best time for a swim. Later it livens up with kayaks and water sports.

  3. 03 Getting there

    Trail to the Cyclops Cave

A 2.4 km circular trail of about 45 minutes runs from the beach along the coast to the Cyclops Cave.

    Bus from Larnaca

OSEA route 711 links Konnos with Ayia Napa, Protaras and Larnaca, and routes 101 and 102 with Ayia Napa and Paralimni.

What I would book

Konnos is the cove I’d pick in this part of the island, tucked among pines and rock right inside the nature park. It pays to go early, as its size means it fills up quickly. Here’s what it has and what to do around it. It lies within Cape Greco.

A sheltered cove among the pines

The Visit Famagusta portal counts it among the finest beaches in Cyprus and gives it about 35 m in width and 200 m in length. It’s so well protected from strong winds that there are hardly any waves, and the sand is fine and golden. Pines and rock surround it, and from the trails above the view of the bay is one of the best on the cape.

There are sunbeds, water sports and a kiosk on the sand, and a café nearby. Access is easy, down from the cape road.

As for the Blue Flag, I couldn’t get hold of the 2026 list from an official source, so I leave it out.

Two times of day

The region sums up the beach’s rhythm well. In the morning it’s quiet and that’s the best time to swim or stroll along the shore. Later it livens up, with people paddling round the bay, water sports and far more buzz. Given the size of the cove, space on the sand runs out early in July and August.

The trails from Konnos

Konnos is the starting point for three of the park’s trails. The shortest is the 2.4 km loop to the Cyclops Cave, about 45 minutes along the coast, past several natural caves. Towards Agioi Anargyroi, the linear trail covers 4.8 km and takes about 2 hours, ending at the little church built over a cave. And the longest comes down from the Profitis Ilias church in Protaras, 8.5 km and about 3 hours.

Chapels and diving near Konnos

Above the cove, on the way to Protaras, the Profitis Elias trail passes two chapels the region recommends, Agios Ioannis and Agioi Saranta. The latter is cut into a cave in the Fanos area, with a stone dome and fragments of 12th-century paintings, according to Visit Famagusta. Profitis Elias itself, perched on a rock above Protaras, means climbing 153 steps. Underwater, between Konnos and Protaras, the Roman Harbour dive has easy entry down some steps and goes to 18 m.

If you are short on time, see the best tours in Konnos Bay and pick one that fits your day.

Getting there and where to stay

Konnos Beach is a stop on OSEA routes 101 and 102, which link Ayia Napa, the cape, Protaras and Paralimni, on route 711 from Larnaca and on several routes from the inland villages that end here. A daytime trip costs €2. For a base close to the cove, see hotels in Protaras, and to compare it with other beaches, the western ones are in Ayia Napa beaches.

Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Protaras before you arrive rather than at the desk.
