Stone houses and small hotels
Staying in the Troodos, village by village
There are no big hotels in Cyprus's mountains. The official list of mountain villages from August 2026 records 111 places to stay with around 2,400 beds, and 84 are restored traditional houses. Kalopanagiotis, Kakopetria, Platres, Lofou, Pedoulas and Omodos have the most choice.

- The mountain list records 111 places to stay and about 2,400 beds.
- 84 are traditional village houses.
- Kalopanagiotis has the most choice.
- For skiing, Platres or Troodos Square.
I'd spend at least one night in a Troodos village. I'd pick Kalopanagiotis or Pedoulas for the painted churches, and Platres to be near Mount Olympus and the winter slopes.

What I would book
Staying in the Troodos is another way of seeing Cyprus. Instead of a seaside resort, a stone house in a mountain village. To see what’s there, I went through what the ministry files under ‘Hill resorts’ in its 2026 register. Here’s what you’ll find and where I’d stay. The coastal areas are covered in where to stay in Cyprus.
Mostly traditional houses
The mountain list records 111 places to stay with about 1,200 rooms and 2,400 beds, under a tenth of the Paphos total. Restored traditional houses dominate, 84 of them, some let as apartments and others run as small hotels. There are also 24 hotels, nearly all small, and the odd hotel apartment. Licensed village houses across the island are covered in agrotourism in Cyprus.
The villages with most choice
Kalopanagiotis has the most places to stay, 23, followed by Kakopetria and Platres with 11 and 10, and Lofou, also with 10. Pedoulas and Omodos have seven each. Kalopanagiotis and Pedoulas also have World Heritage painted churches, which I cover in UNESCO World Heritage in Cyprus. Lofou and Omodos lie further south, on the Limassol side.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Platres on Expedia and filter by area before price.
The mountain hotels
The largest is four-star Rodon, in Agros, with 154 rooms. Platres has Forest Park, Pendeli, Petit Palais and Edelweiss, and Kakopetria has Ekali, Minaide’s, Hellas and Crystal. On Troodos Square itself, 2 km from the slopes, are Troodos and Jubilee. None of it feels like the coast, and that’s the appeal for me.
Platres and Troodos Square, in figures
Platres holds the classic summer-retreat hotels. The register gives Forest Park four stars and 137 rooms on Spyrou Kyprianou Street, with an indicative rating for now; three-star Pendeli has 81; Petit Palais, a two-star with a final licence, 32; and Edelweiss, another two-star, 22. Smaller still are Spring, Kallithea Inn and Semiramis Boutique, with ten to fourteen rooms, while New Helvetia is listed as a traditional house run as a hotel, with 32 rooms. Higher up, on Troodos Square, the Troodos hotel is a three-star with 48 rooms and Jubilee a two-star with 40, both with final licences. They’re the closest beds to the slopes of Mount Olympus.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Platres and pick one that fits your day.
Kakopetria, Marathasa and Pitsilia
In Kakopetria, Ekali is the largest, a three-star with 58 rooms on Gr. Digenis Street, and The Mill, also three-star, has 14 on Mylou Street. Next come Minaide’s (48), Hellas (29) and Crystal (26), plus three small traditional houses. In the Marathasa valley, Pedoulas has the two-star Health Habitat, with 30 rooms, and the one-star Christy’s Palace, while in Kalopanagiotis everything is a house, with one to twelve rooms, such as Olga’s Katoi, Agios Andronikos and Pantheon. To the east, in Pitsilia, the Rodon at Agros, with 154 rooms and 302 beds, is by far the biggest in the mountains, and at Spilia, Askas and Palaichori there are single houses such as Pine Inn and Pitharia. On the Limassol side, Ambelikos at Potamitissa has fifteen rooms.
Staying to ski
If you’re going in winter to ski, the Cyprus Ski Club places the Mount Olympus ski area just 2 km from Troodos Square and 12 km from Platres, with a usual season from early January to the end of March. What else to do in the mountains is in things to do in Cyprus. Before driving up, check the piste and road conditions page the club itself keeps, because snow can make the road to the square tricky, and sleeping in Troodos or Platres saves you that drive first thing in the morning.
Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Limassol before you arrive rather than at the desk.
How I’d do it
One or two nights in a village are enough to change the trip. I’d choose Kalopanagiotis or Pedoulas for the churches and Platres for Mount Olympus. And if you’re bringing a dog, many places on the official pet-friendly list are up here, as I explain in Cyprus with a dog. Agros and its Rodon hotel sit in the Pitsilia area, east of the range. Kalopanayiotis, with 23 traditional houses on the register, has more than any other village, and stone houses from across the island are gathered in boutique hotels in Cyprus.
