Psematismenos is a village in the south of Larnaca district, with 299 residents in 2021, about 2.5 km from Tochni and 3.4 km from Choirokoitia as the crow flies. It has cobbled lanes, Agia Marina church and four traditional houses on the official register, sleeping 28. Rather than a sight in itself, it works as a quiet base for this corner of Larnaca.
As a stop it's slight, but as a base it's one of the more sensible choices in the district. I'd stay here to see Choirokoitia, Tochni and Lefkara without moving on every day, with the coast a quarter of an hour away.

Larnaca district
What I would book
Psematismenos won’t make anyone’s bucket list, and I wouldn’t put it on mine. What it has is position. It sits in the south of Larnaca district, a stone’s throw from Choirokoitia, and it’s the kind of village where you sleep well and head off somewhere different each morning.
The registered traditional houses
This is the real reason for the page. The official Larnaca accommodation list of 4 August 2026 shows four traditional houses with apartments in Psematismenos, unclassified as that category always is. Together they have 14 apartments and 28 beds. The largest is Evkarpos Country House, run by Filokypros, and Modus Vivendi has two, one described on its website as a cluster of restored listed buildings in the village centre, with three one-bedroom suites and two studios.
The Larnaca tourism board includes Psematismenos among the district’s agrotourism villages, alongside Tochni, Kalavasos and Lefkara. Rural houses elsewhere on the island, and how they differ by area, are gathered in agrotourism in Cyprus.
The triangle with Tochni and Choirokoitia
Filokypros talks of a triangle of traditional villages made up of Psematismenos, Tochni and Choirokoitia, about 3 km from each other. With the Neolithic settlement at Choirokoitia, a World Heritage Site, and Tenta at Kalavasos, a morning of archaeology plans itself. In the afternoon the coast is close. Zygi, which Modus Vivendi recommends for its fish taverns, lies roughly 4 km off in a straight line, and Governor’s Beach with its white rocks around 9.
Lefkara, the lace village, is under 12 km away. I’d give that its own day, because it deserves the time.

Where Psematismenos is and how to get there
By OpenStreetMap coordinates the village is about 2.5 km from Tochni and 3.4 km from Choirokoitia in a straight line, and about 27 km from Larnaca Airport. Limassol and Larnaca town are around 30 km each, Nicosia about 45. One of its rural lets reckons 20 minutes’ drive to Limassol and half an hour to Nicosia, and another says the motorway is a short drive. English Wikipedia places it 2 km north-west of Maroni and gives a Turkish name, Yalancıköy, though no official source I could find confirms it, so treat it as a pointer only.
In 2021 the village had 299 residents, according to the CYSTAT census. You feel that size the moment you arrive.
Cobbled lanes and Agia Marina
The two rural lets that describe Psematismenos agree on the essentials. They mention more than 600 years of history, cobbled lanes, restored stone houses that keep their vernacular look, and two old churches. One is Agia Marina, Byzantine with 19th-century additions, according to Modus Vivendi. Olive and citrus groves surround it and still underpin the local economy, and in the centre there’s a coffee shop, a tavern, a mini market and a bank.
There’s no museum, no site of its own and no opening hours to give. I say so plainly so nobody turns up expecting more.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Psematismenos and pick one that fits your day.
Who Psematismenos suits
Psematismenos strikes me as a good pick if you want southern Larnaca without a beach hotel and don’t need anything going on at night. For an hour’s stop, though, it offers no more than Tochni or Kato Drys. For similar villages, the rest are in Larnaca district.
Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Larnaca before you arrive rather than at the desk.
