When to visit Cyprus
Cyprus in August, heat and peak season
August is the hottest and busiest month in Cyprus. According to the WMO, Larnaca has a 33.5 °C average high and Paphos sees not a single rainy day, and according to CYSTAT 602,026 visitors arrived in August 2025, 193,091 of them from the UK. The 15th, the Assumption, is a public holiday.

- The Assumption, on the 15th, is a holiday.
August isn't my favourite month for Cyprus, because of the heat and the crowds. But if that's when your holiday falls, I'd choose the base carefully, with a shady beach nearby and a hotel with a pool, and book well ahead.

01 My tip
The year's peak
With 602,026 arrivals in 2025, August is the busiest month. Book your room and car as early as you can.

What I would book
August is Cyprus’s record month, the hottest and the one with the most visitors. If your holiday falls now, you’ll still enjoy it, but it’s worth knowing what you’re in for. I explain it with WMO, CYSTAT, Central Bank and gov.uk data. For summer as a whole, see Cyprus in summer.
August weather
August gives Larnaca a 33.5 °C average high and a 23 °C low, and Paphos 31 and 22.2 °C. Nicosia again reaches 37.5 °C, as in July. It doesn’t rain, and at Paphos the WMO records 0.0 mm and no rainy days. In the Troodos, Prodromos stays at a 28.9 °C high and an 18.6 °C low.
The busiest month
According to CYSTAT, 602,026 visitors arrived in August 2025, 8.5 % more than a year earlier and the highest figure of the year. August 2026 brought 581,880. From the UK, 193,091 came in August 2025, almost a third of the total. With numbers like these it pays to book everything; I compare the areas to stay in where to stay in Cyprus.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Limassol on Expedia and filter by area before price.
The Assumption
The Assumption, 15 August, appears on the Central Bank of Cyprus holiday list. In 2026 it fell on a Saturday and in 2027 it falls on a Sunday, so neither year gives a long weekend.
By sea
According to the shipping press, the 2026 Limassol-Piraeus ferry made its last return trip on 1 September. August is therefore the last full month for combining Cyprus and Greece by boat; I explain it in ferry to Cyprus.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Limassol and pick one that fits your day.
Wildfires
August is right in the high-risk wildfire period, April to October, according to gov.uk, which advises registering your phone for emergency alerts.
What to pack
Light, pale clothing, a hat, sunglasses, high-factor sun cream and water with you at all times. The nights are warm, so a jacket is only needed for the mountains.
Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Limassol before you arrive rather than at the desk.
Compared with 2024
August grew 8.5 % in 2025, according to CYSTAT, and dipped slightly in 2026 to 581,880 visitors. Even so, it remains by far the busiest month of the year, and the one families and groups most need to plan ahead for.
The nights
The hardest part of August is the nights. The average low doesn’t fall below 22 °C on the coast or in Nicosia, so air conditioning is close to essential. In the mountains, by contrast, the low at Prodromos is 18.6 °C.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Limassol on Booking.com and filter by area before price.
My August plan
Beach early, a hotel pool at midday, dinner out once the sun goes down and a trip to the Troodos. If you can move your dates, Cyprus in September has similar temperatures, a 31.4 °C high in Larnaca, with slightly fewer people, and Cyprus in July almost identical heat. If you head for the east coast in August, get up early to find a spot at Nissi Beach or Fig Tree Bay; there are alternatives among the Ayia Napa beaches.

| Nicosia | 37.5 / 22.7 | 0.8 mm | 0.6 |
| Paphos (airport) | 31.0 / 22.2 | 0.0 mm | 0.0 |
