Shuttle, taxi or hire car
Getting from the airport to your hotel in Cyprus
Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa is about 38 km in a straight line, and to Protaras about 44 km, using OpenStreetMap coordinates. You can do it by private shuttle, taxi or hire car. The Cypriot transport ministry links to the airport shuttles, and Kapnos, one of them, lists Ayia Napa, Protaras, Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos in its network.

- Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa is about 38 km in a straight line, and to Protaras about 44 km.
- Private shuttles, which the transport ministry links to, sit alongside taxis and hire cars.
- Carry some cash for taxis, as not all of them take cards.
- From Paphos Airport, the town is 9 km away and Coral Bay 19 km.
For Ayia Napa or Protaras I'd weigh the shuttle against a few days' car hire. If I'm not leaving the beach, the shuttle. If I want Cape Greco and a day in Nicosia, I'd pick up the car at the airport.
Before you go
What I would keep in mind
-
01 To save money
The shuttle, if you're staying put
Kapnos says a ticket covers one carry-on and one large bag up to 20 kg, small pets travel free in a carrier, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours ahead. For a beach hotel without a car, that's where I'd start.

02 Money
Have cash for the taxi
The Spanish foreign ministry warns that some services, taxis among them, don't take card payments. Ask before you get in, or carry euros.

03 Getting there
From Paphos, everything's closer
From Paphos Airport, Paphos town is about 9 km away in a straight line and Coral Bay about 19 km. A taxi or hire car makes most sense.

04 Watch out
Never leave your passport as a deposit
Gov.uk warns that rental companies often ask for your passport as a deposit, which is illegal. Never hand it over.

What I would book
Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa is one of the most searched journeys on any Cyprus holiday, and it’s easy to see why. Ayia Napa and Protaras are the nearest big beach resorts to the island’s busiest airport. These are the choices, backed by sources I can cite, and the one I’d pick for each kind of trip. Still choosing between the two airports? Read how to get to Cyprus first. Landing with a pet? Check Cyprus with a dog first, and sort your phone out with Cyprus roaming. Once there, each area’s accommodation is covered in Protaras hotels, Larnaca hotels and Latchi hotels.
Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa and Protaras
Using OpenStreetMap coordinates, Ayia Napa is about 38 km from Larnaca Airport in a straight line and Protaras about 44 km. The road is a little longer. You’ve three ways to do it, a private shuttle, a taxi or a hire car.
The transport ministry’s website carries links to the private airport shuttles. One is Kapnos Airport Shuttle, going since 2008 by its own account, which also serves Ayia Napa and Protaras. Your fare includes hand luggage plus a 20 kg suitcase, small pets ride free in a carrier, online booking stays open until an hour before, and you can cancel at no cost with a day’s notice. I couldn’t read the fares on its own site, but the Cyprus By Bus portal, undated, lists 9 euros from the airport to Ayia Napa and 12 euros to Protaras per adult, and 5 euros for children aged 2 to 12.
Shuttle, taxi or car?
I’d decide by what you’ll do once you’re there. If it’s a beach hotel and not much else, the shuttle is the easy option. If you want Cape Greco, a day in Nicosia or a different beach every afternoon, hire a car at the airport and forget about it. I’d keep the taxi for a very late arrival or a lot of luggage, with cash in my pocket, because the Spanish foreign ministry warns that some taxis don’t take cards. The fixed fare from either airport, €50 in the daytime for a cab carrying up to four, is explained in taxis in Cyprus.
Driving on the left will feel like home, and gov.uk’s advice is never to leave your passport with the rental desk. Everything to check before you sign is in car hire in Cyprus.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Ayia Napa for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
Larnaca Airport to Nicosia or Limassol
Nicosia is about 40 km from the airport in a straight line and Limassol about 56 km. Kapnos lists Nicosia in its network. If you’re staying inside Nicosia’s walls, I’d take the shuttle and skip the hunt for parking. For Limassol, a base for Kourion and the Troodos, a car is more useful, though Hermes also lists the Limassol Airport Express, which Cyprus By Bus prices at 9 euros per adult and 4 euros for under-12s. Kapnos from Nicosia to the airport is 8 euros on the same portal.
If you stay close to the airport, the trip is short. The Golden Bay hotel, on the Dhekelia road, reckons about 20 minutes by taxi and has no shuttle.
From Paphos Airport
Distances here are short. Paphos town is about 9 km away in a straight line and Coral Bay about 19 km, so a taxi or hire car makes most sense. Travelling light? Pafos Buses runs two airport routes, the 612 and 613, with a 2-euro ticket bought on board. Polis and Latchi, in the north of the district, are about 36 and 37 km away, and there I’d want my own wheels. The details are in Paphos Airport. The rest of the distances from both airports are in distances in Cyprus.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Ayia Napa on GetYourGuide.
What I wouldn’t count on
For Larnaca town there’s a Cyprus Public Transport bus, which Hermes lists for the airport and its area, at 2.70 euros for a paper single since August 2026, but for longer trips I’d check the operator’s timetable before relying on it. Each company’s fares are in buses in Cyprus. How to get around the island after that is in getting around Cyprus.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Ayia Napa: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Ayia Napa for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
