  • A 225-room four-star in Protaras.
  • About 160 metres from Fig Tree Bay.
  • Its website doesn't allow automated reading.

If what I want is to be down on Fig Tree Bay in a couple of minutes, few addresses make it easier. But I couldn't check anything about the inside, so I'd ask about everything before booking.

The robots.txt of capobay.com bars automated reading, so I don't use its website. Ask about facilities directly.

What I would book

Fig Tree Bay is the postcard image of Protaras, and Capo Bay is one of the hotels that has it literally round the corner. It’s big, central and, for our purposes, opaque, because its website can’t be read. I cover what’s on record and what you’ll need to ask. The area’s other options are in Protaras hotels.

What the register says

The Paralimni accommodation list published by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism on 4 August includes it as a four-star hotel with 225 rooms and 450 beds at 2 Iasonos Street. As with nearly all its neighbours, the rating is marked P, meaning indicative. In size it’s one of the larger hotels in Protaras, in the same league as Golden Coast or Anastasia Beach.

Why I don’t list its facilities

The website on the register is capobay.com, and its robots.txt shuts the door on any automated reading. I respect that, so I haven’t taken pools, restaurants or board options from it. Nor have I found another source of the hotel’s own that I could cite. If you’re interested, ask in writing which board basis they offer, whether there’s a heated pool out of season and whether any rooms face the sea.

To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Capo Bay Hotel Protaras on Expedia and filter by area before price.

Location, its strong suit

Measured on OpenStreetMap, Fig Tree Bay lies about 160 metres away in a straight line, a few minutes on foot. The Famagusta region’s tourism website says that recently uncovered Hellenistic tombs on the bay’s headland are now protected by glass, and that a seafront promenade of more than 4 kilometres links the bay with Pernera. It’s the nicest way to explore Protaras on foot as the afternoon cools.

To get here, the airport that suits you is Larnaca, about 44 km away in a straight line by my calculation from OpenStreetMap; by road it’s a little further. I go through the ways out of it, from taxis to hire cars, in airport transfers in Cyprus. Once settled in, you won’t need a car for the beach or for dinner in the centre.

Neighbours

About six hundred metres away on the avenue are Sunrise Pearl and the Vrissiana hotel, side by side. Towards Cape Greco, a kilometre and a half away, is the Cavo Maris hotel, more family-focused, and to the north, from the Tsokkos group, the Tsokkos Gardens hotel.

If you are short on time, see the best tours in Protaras and pick one that fits your day.

My view

For anyone wanting the beach at the door and central Protaras on foot, the location is hard to beat. What I can’t do is assess the hotel from the inside, so I’d only keep it on the shortlist if the hotel answers your questions in detail. To pick a different beach each day, see Protaras beaches.

Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Protaras before you arrive rather than at the desk.

To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Capo Bay Hotel Protaras on Booking.com and filter by area before price.
