Metal observation tower at Rogla among the Pohorje spruces, on the high plateau of the resort

    Zreče, Pohorje

Rogla, the Pohorje plateau for skiing and walking

    Facts checked on

Rogla is the Pohorje plateau above Zreče, a family and competition ski resort in winter and, in summer, a draw for its treetop walk, about 1,000 m long and 20 m off the ground, ending at a 37 m viewing tower. It also has the 1,360 m Zlodejevo alpine coaster, a bike park with six trails, and forests, peat bogs and lakes.

    My view
    Sergio Lepone

It's one of the easiest mountains to enjoy as a family. In summer I'd do the treetop walk and a bike ride to the Šumik primeval forest, and in winter I'd come to ski with children, sleeping down in Zreče.

    What I would book ahead

    What exactly is Rogla?

It’s a Pohorje plateau of broad forests, peat bogs and lakes, in Zreče municipality, with a mid-mountain climate that stays noticeably cooler in high summer. As a settlement, according to SURS, it had just 5 residents on 1 January 2026. Everything else is hotels, slopes and trails. Rogla and Zreče are marketed together as one destination, which holds gold status in the Slovenia Green scheme, and the tourist board even mentions a Goran Dragić basketball camp held here.

    Skiing at Rogla

The tourist board describes it as a popular resort and a venue for international competitions, with well-groomed slopes, natural and artificial snow and cross-country trails for the whole family. There’s also snowshoeing, horse-drawn skijoring, night walks by torchlight and a Fun Park for tricks. Lift passes and season dates are published each year on the resort’s website.

What to do at Rogla in summer

The big draw is the treetop walk, about 1,000 m long, climbing to 20 m above the ground and ending at a 37 m viewing tower. Zlodejevo, a 1,360 m alpine coaster with tight bends, runs all year. The Bike Park has six forest trails totalling 7,500 m plus a beginners’ course, and Rogla.eu also mentions the Mašinžaga park and a six-seater chairlift.

For children there are the Dwarf’s Path, Little Dragon’s Path and Heart’s Path, the Pohorje Village with play houses, a horse ranch and Mini ZOO Land. By bike, one route runs via Klopni vrh and the Šumik primeval forest to Osankarica, and another to Skomarje, which the resort calls Slovenia’s highest village.

Another route sets out from the Outdoor Centre past the source of the River Paka, and a longer one takes in Skomarje, the Arbajter deer farm and the church of St James at Resnik before returning past the lower station of the Jurgovo chairlift and the Koča na Pesku hut. The tourist board adds that much of the area falls within Natura 2000, and that three accommodation providers here hold green and sustainability awards.

Pohorje pot and where to stay

The signature dish is the Pohorje pot, created by Darinka Orlačnik, head chef of the main hotel, and carrying the Tastes of Rogla mark. I’d sleep in Zreče and come up for the day, pairing the plateau with the Oplotnica gorge. For the rest of the range, see my guide to Pohorje, and for other resorts, my guide to skiing in Slovenia.
