The country's only international airport

Luxembourg-Findel airport, from landing to take-off

Luxembourg airport is at Findel, 10 km from the central station, and it's the only international airport in the country. It has 16 airlines, more than 120 non-stop destinations and handled 5 million passengers in 2024. It closes from 23:00 to 06:00, has no left-luggage office and links to the city by free tram and buses.

  • Luxembourg airport is at Findel, 10 km from the central station, and it's the country's only international airport.
  • It handled 5 million passengers in 2024, has 16 airlines and closes from 23:00 to 06:00.
  • Tram T1 and buses 16 and 29 run into the city for free.
  • There's no left luggage; the nearest is the paid service at the central station.

It's a small, easy airport and I think that's its best feature. Two hours is plenty, the free tram takes the sting out of arriving, and the only thing I'd plan around is the lack of left luggage on your last day.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 Getting there

Tram and buses at the door

Tram line T1 has served the terminal since 2 March 2025, running through Kirchberg and the central station to Stadion. Buses 16 and 29 leave every 10 to 15 minutes, and all of it is free.

  2. 02 Watch out

No left luggage at the terminal

For security reasons the airport doesn't store bags. Its own website points you to the central station, where CFL runs a paid service. Plan for that if your flight home is in the evening.

  3. 03 Money

Kiss & Fly gets expensive fast

Car park C is free for the first 15 minutes, then €2.70 per 15 minutes and €71.50 a day. The covered A/B car park costs €27.50 for the first day.

  4. 04 My tip

    Evening check-in with Luxair

Flying Luxair between 06:00 and 09:00? You can drop your bag the evening before between 19:30 and 22:30 and collect your boarding pass, then go straight to security in the morning.

What I would book

Luxembourg airport is one of those small ones you end up grateful for. It sits right on the edge of the capital at Findel, and it’s compact enough to walk from the entrance to your gate without any fuss. Its operator, lux-Airport, calls it the only international airport in the country and says it aims for big-airport standards with regional-airport convenience, which from the numbers looks like a fair description.

Findel in figures

According to lux-Airport, the airport serves more than 120 non-stop destinations with 16 airlines, and 5 million passengers passed through in 2024, up from 4.79 million in 2023. It has a single runway, 4,000 metres long since 1984, the current Terminal A opened in 2008 and a new Terminal B for smaller aircraft followed in 2017. Luxair is based here, and so is the cargo airline Cargolux, and the operator says Findel is always among Europe’s top ten cargo airports.

One practical point. There’s a night curfew from 23:00 to 06:00, so scheduled flights arrive before late evening and leave from six in the morning. Which airlines fly from the UK is covered in flights to Luxembourg.

How do you get into the city?

On public transport, and for free. Tram line T1 has had a stop called Findel-Luxembourg Airport since 2 March 2025 and runs through Kirchberg, the centre and the central station to Stadion. Buses 16 and 29 run into town every 10 to 15 minutes, and the 29 stops at the Gare Centrale. Bus 6, via Hamilius, and bus 302, which goes to Trier in Germany, also call at the airport.

The central station is 10 km away, the operator says, and visitluxembourg puts the centre about 20 minutes away by bus. Taxis included, the full walkthrough is in Luxembourg airport to city centre.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Luxemburgo before prices climb.

Check-in, waiting and what’s missing

The operator recommends arriving two hours before departure, and there are 26 check-in desks at the entrance of the terminal. With Luxair you can drop your bag the evening before, from 19:30 to 22:30, if you fly between 06:00 and 09:00. If you hold a ticket for an early flight, the airport’s website says you can wait inside the terminal during the curfew.

The UK government adds one thing for the journey home. Luxembourg is in Schengen, and the EU’s Entry/Exit System may take your fingerprints or photo when you leave, so allow extra time to reach the gate.

What’s missing is left luggage. For security reasons the airport doesn’t store bags, and its own website sends you to the central station, where CFL runs a paid service. With a late departure and a free morning, that’s the point to build your last day around.

Parking without paying through the nose

Here it pays to read the tariff. Car park C, the Kiss & Fly right in front of the terminal, is free for 15 minutes and meant for dropping off or picking up. After that it’s €2.70 per 15 minutes and €71.50 a day, prices designed to move you on. The covered A/B car park, two minutes’ walk away, costs €2.20 per 15 minutes and €27.50 for the first day. Car park E is the cheapest drive-up option at €23 for the first day, but it’s about ten minutes on foot with stairs and no ramp.

Pre-booking online opens up more car parks, and the operator says booking is the only way to guarantee a space. The economy car parks L and M are online only, with a three-day minimum and a shuttle bus. For parking in the city itself, see parking in Luxembourg.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Luxemburgo before prices climb.

Car hire and nearby hotels

The car hire desks are in the arrivals hall on level -1 and the cars wait in indoor car park A on level -2. You’ll find Avis and Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty, Sixt and UFO Drive, plus the Flex car-sharing scheme. Opening hours differ and several only open on Sunday afternoons, so I’ve listed them in car hire in Luxembourg.

Sleeping by the terminal only makes sense for very early or very late flights, and for those see Luxembourg airport hotels. Otherwise the free tram makes staying in the city just as easy.

If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Luxemburgo and choose by the reviews.

A car frees you from timetables: search car hire in Luxembourg on DiscoverCars and compare companies.

So you do not pay over the odds, look at trains, coaches and flights to Luxembourg on Omio and pick the one that suits you.
