Commune of Clervaux, 519 m above sea level
Marnach, Clervaux's plateau village with a crest, a stage and shops
Marnach (Maarnech) is a village in the commune of Clervaux, northern Luxembourg, with 790 residents according to the commune. It sits on the plateau about 2.5 km as the crow flies from Clervaux's old centre, and stands out for two things, its own coat of arms granted in 1954 and the Cube 521, the north's regional arts centre.

- Marnach is a plateau village of 790 people in the commune of Clervaux.
- It has had its own coat of arms since a 1954 order, unusual for a place that isn't a commune.
- The Cube 521, the north's regional arts centre, is here.
- For hotels and the castle, head to Clervaux, about 2.5 km away as the crow flies.
I wouldn't travel to Marnach for its own sake, and that's fine. I'd treat it as what it is, the practical plateau village with parking, shops and the Cube 521 if there's a show on, before heading down into Clervaux for the castle.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Most beautiful
Arms without being a commune
The commune of Clervaux reckons Marnach is probably the only place in the country with its own coat of arms that isn't a commune. A grand-ducal order granted them on 27 November 1954.
-
02 Worth the splurge
An evening at the Cube 521
The north's arts centre puts on jazz, classical music, theatre, dance, cabaret and children's shows all year round. If a date lines up with your trip, it's the best night out in the area.

03 Getting there
Buses from Prüm, trains at Clervaux
Clervaux's Tourist Center mentions daily buses from Prüm to Marnach and Clervaux. The nearest railway station is Clervaux, on CFL line 10.
Clervaux
If Clervaux is the postcard, Marnach is the part of the commune that gets on with daily life. While the castle town squeezes into the bottom of its valley, Marnach spreads out across the plateau above, its church at 519 metres according to the commune. With 790 residents it’s the second-largest village in the commune after Clervaux itself, and its section covers 550 hectares. South along the N7, Hosingen is the main village of neighbouring Parc Hosingen, with the AquaNat’Our pools.
The boundary comes with small print. The houses on the east side of several streets, including Marbuergerstrooss and Dosberstrooss, actually fall within the neighbouring cadastral section of Roder, as does the council workshop. That same section holds the Schwaarzenhiwwel, at 544 metres the highest point in the whole commune of Clervaux.
Arms that almost nobody else has
Marnach’s quirk isn’t visible from the street. The commune of Clervaux says it is probably the only locality in Luxembourg with its own coat of arms that isn’t a commune. A grand-ducal order of 27 November 1954 granted them. The shield is split into blue and gold along a line of fir trees, with two broom flowers above and a lit torch below. I find details like this say more about a place than any leaflet, because they show a community that wanted to stand apart from its neighbours.
Church history ties it to another village in the commune. For centuries Marnach belonged to the parish of Munshausen, where the lords of Clervaux were buried.
The Cube 521, your evening sorted
The Cube 521 arts centre, at 1-3 Driicht, is the north’s «maison régionale de la culture». visitluxembourg sums up its programme as jazz, classical music, theatre, dance, cabaret and children’s shows throughout the year. In a region where there isn’t much on after dinner, I’d check its listings before booking anything, because a show here changes an evening in the Éislek.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Clervaux for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
Shops and services
Marnach is also where people in the north do their shopping. The Nordstrooss Shopping Mile brings together more than 40 shops and services, plus restaurants and a medical centre with a pharmacy. The hours it published as of 30 September 2026 were 8am to 7.30pm from Monday to Saturday, with Sunday mornings only, until 1pm. It’s no sight, but it solves what Clervaux’s narrow streets and small shops make harder.
Fitting it into a trip
Clervaux’s Tourist Center lists daily buses from Prüm, just over the German border, that stop in Marnach and carry on to Clervaux. The nearest station is Clervaux, on CFL line 10, where a second-class seat costs you nothing. I wouldn’t stay in Marnach but down in Clervaux, with Clervaux Castle and the exhibition on foot. To choose where to sleep, the guide to hotels in Clervaux compares the commune with the rest of the north.

If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Luxembourg: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
Before you fix your dates, compare tickets to Luxembourg: the same journey can cost very different amounts from one day to the next.
