Kiischpelt, seven villages between the Clerve and the Wiltz
Kiischpelt is one of Luxembourg's least populated communes, with 1,309 residents on 1 January 2026 in seven villages along the Clerve valley. Wilwerwiltz is the seat and Kautenbach the tourist village. It holds the only point in the country where a whole degree of latitude meets a whole degree of longitude, and one of its oldest watermills.

- Kiischpelt has 1,309 residents in seven villages along the Clerve.
- Wilwerwiltz and Kautenbach both have railway stations.
- The 50th parallel and 6th meridian cross near Enscherange.
- The Rackésmillen, from 1334, is among the country's oldest watermills.
Kiischpelt is one of the few northern communes you can reach easily by train, so I'd do it car-free. Get off at Wilwerwiltz, walk the Auto-Pédestre loop through Lellingen, Pintsch and Enscherange, and catch the train back from the same station.

What I would keep in mind

01 Most beautiful
50°N and 6°E, in a field near Enscherange
At the Loh, 413.8 m up, the 50th parallel north meets the 6th meridian east. The commune says it's the only such point in the Grand Duchy, marked by a sundial set into the ground.
-
02 Getting there
Two stations on the northern line
Wilwerwiltz and Kautenbach both have CFL stations, free in second class. On the weekends of 10-11 and 17-18 October 2026 a replacement bus runs on the Kautenbach section.

03 My tip
The mill that still turns
The Rackésmillen at Enscherange, dated 1334 by the commune, is the last intact watermill on the Clerve. visitluxembourg calls it the oldest working water-driven mill in the country.
Hardly anyone knows the name Kiischpelt, although walkers heading north will recognise more of what’s in it. It’s the commune of the Clerve valley between Clervaux and the river’s meeting with the Wiltz, with 1,309 residents on 1 January 2026, which puts it among the least populated in the country. Its seven villages are Wilwerwiltz, the seat, Kautenbach, Alscheid, Enscherange, Lellingen, Merkholtz and Pintsch. The Our nature park includes it.
Wilwerwiltz, the seat with a station
Wilwerwiltz sits at the heart of the commune and, the commune notes, has a station with national and international connections. The most visible sight is the tower of its old castle. visitluxembourg explains that the lordship dates from the 14th century under the Basenheim family, that in 1586 Maria von der Heiden renovated the castle and added an inscribed gateway, and that in 1928, on the verge of collapse, the municipality bought it at auction. Only the tower and the gateway survived the demolition, and the tower now stands as part of the village square.
On the path towards Lellingen there’s a small chapel to St Willibrord with a spring. Legend says the saint struck the ground with his staff and water gushed out, and the village church is dedicated to him too.
Enscherange, the mill and the grid
Enscherange is the village I wouldn’t skip. It has a late 17th-century castle, private and visible only from outside, and the Rackésmillen, a watermill dated 1334 by the commune, the last intact one on the Clerve and, according to visitluxembourg, the oldest working water-driven mill in the country. At the entrance to the village stand the buildings of an old tannery.
Close by, at a spot called the Loh, 413.8 metres up, the 50th parallel north crosses the 6th meridian east. The commune says it’s the only place in the Grand Duchy where a whole degree of latitude and longitude coincide, and a sundial in the ground marks it. It’s a bit of geographical trivia that tickles me, the kind of thing Greenwich fans will appreciate.
Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Clervaux before prices climb.
A walk that joins three villages
The Auto-Pédestre Wilwerwiltz, 9.65 km and about 2 hours 50 minutes with 230 m of climbing, leaves from the Am Duerf car park, passes the chapel, crosses the Clerve and the railway, reaches Lellingen, whose restored centre is worth the detour, climbs the Hongerbierg to Pintsch and comes down via the Loh to Enscherange. For longer hikes, Kautenbach is the start of the Éislek Trail and the finish of the Lee Trail on the Escapardenne trail.
Schuttbourg, from the outside
Upstream from Kautenbach, on a narrow slate spur, stands Schuttbourg Castle, made up of a fortress and a Renaissance house. It’s privately owned and can’t be visited. I cover it on the Kautenbach page, since that’s the side it shows off best.

Where to stay
STATEC counted one hotel and three campsites in Kiischpelt in 2025. If you’d rather stay somewhere with more choice, Wiltz and Clervaux are close by, both with stations.
If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Clervaux and choose by the reviews.
