Luxembourg airport hotels, and when you actually need one
Luxembourg airport is at Findel, a locality in the commune of Sandweiler, which had 3 hotel establishments in 2025 according to STATEC. With tram T1 running free to the terminal since March 2025 and a night closure from 11pm to 6am, sleeping by the airport only makes sense for a dawn flight or a very late arrival.

- Findel is in the commune of Sandweiler, with 3 hotels in 2025 according to STATEC.
- Tram T1 has run free to the terminal since 2 March 2025.
- The airport closes from 11pm to 6am but lets you wait inside with a morning ticket.
- An airport hotel only pays off for a very early flight or a very late arrival.
I'd only stay by Findel for a flight before 8am or an arrival after midnight. Otherwise the free tram gets you to the terminal from Kirchberg, the Gare or Hamilius, and an evening in the city is worth far more than a room by the runway.
Before you go
What I would keep in mind
-
01 Getting there
The tram stops at the terminal
Since 2 March 2025, line T1 has a stop at Findel - Luxembourg Airport, connecting with buses 6, 16 and 29. All of it is free within the country.

02 Watch out
Keep an eye on your case in the lobby
The FCDO names hotel lobbies in the Findel area as hotspots for theft. Don't leave luggage unattended while you check in or wait for a transfer.

03 My tip
You can wait inside the terminal
According to the airport, you may stay in the terminal during the night closure if you hold a ticket for a flight the next morning. It's the free alternative to a hotel.

04 Money
A week's parking starts at €96
In covered car park A/B, the first week without pre-booking is €96, then €66.50 for each extra week. Keep that figure handy if you're comparing a park-and-stay deal.

What I would book
Behind most searches for Luxembourg airport hotels, the real question isn’t where to stay but whether you need to stay there at all. At most European airports the answer depends on how far away the city is. At Luxembourg, with the terminal 10 km from the central station and a free tram stopping at the door, the answer is nearly always no. Nearly.
Where Findel is, and what’s around it
The airport lies at Findel, which the official register of localities places in the commune of Sandweiler, in the canton of Luxembourg. According to STATEC, Sandweiler had 3 hotel establishments in 2025, compared with 2 a year earlier. That’s the only official figure available, and I won’t invent a list of starred hotels I can’t verify.
The same commune is home to the German military cemetery, with 10,913 graves, and Sandweiler-Contern railway station. There’s little else for a visitor, so sleeping here means sleeping to fly.
To give you a sense of scale, the capital had 57 hotels that same year and it’s a tram ride away. Supply by the runway is minimal, so when there’s a big trade fair or conference at Luxexpo I wouldn’t count on finding a room at the last minute. If everything’s full, the natural fallback is Kirchberg itself or the station district, since both reach the terminal without changing lines.
When I would stay by the airport
The airport has a night closure from 11pm to 6am and recommends arriving two hours before your flight. With a 7am departure, that margin puts you at the terminal door at 5am, before the closure has even ended. In practice, any flight before 8am means being there at the crack of dawn, and every minute of travel counts. That’s the clear case for a Findel hotel, and the only one where I’d happily pay for it.
The other is a late arrival. Land close to 11pm, tired and laden, and a bed a few minutes away saves you the journey and your temper. Taxi fares here aren’t fixed, so it’s worth asking the hotel in advance whether it offers a transfer.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Luxembourg on Booking.com and filter by area before price.
When I wouldn’t
For any mid-morning or afternoon flight, I’d sleep in the city. Since March 2025 tram T1 has served the terminal directly, calling at Kirchberg, Hamilius and Gare Centrale on the way, every 3 to 8 minutes. On top of that, buses 16 and 29 run frequently into town, again at no cost. The detail is in Luxembourg airport to city centre.
With links like that, my favourite compromise is Kirchberg. You’re on the same line as the terminal and a few stops from the old town; I cover it in hotels in Kirchberg.
The free alternative
There’s an option many people don’t know about. According to the airport’s own website, you may wait inside the terminal during the night closure if you hold a ticket for a flight the next morning. It’s not comfortable, but for a backpacker on a 6am flight it solves the night without a hotel bill.
For early Luxair flights there’s another trick. The airline lets you check in the evening before, from 7.30pm to 10.30pm, for flights leaving between 6am and 9am. Stay in town, check in the night before, and you’ll travel lighter and with more margin the next morning. Handy on the route to London City, which Luxair flies direct.
To sleep close to everything, search places to stay in Luxembourg on Expedia and filter by area before price.
Worth knowing before you book
The FCDO specifically mentions hotel lobbies in the Findel area as places where thefts happen. No cause for alarm, but a reason not to leave your case alone while you check in or wait for a transfer.
If you’re driving and leaving the car for several days, compare with the airport’s own prices. Without pre-booking, covered car park A/B costs €27.50 for the first day and €96 for the first week, and open-air car park E €23 for the first day. There’s no left luggage at the terminal, so if you’ve hours to kill before a flight, the central station is the only official place to leave bags. Everything else about the airport is in Luxembourg airport, and if the train suits you better than the plane, compare hotels near Luxembourg station.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Luxembourg and pick one that fits your day.
Where the bus does not go, a car does: compare car hire in Luxembourg before you arrive rather than at the desk.
If you still need a way in, check the best ticket deals to Luxembourg from where you are.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a hotel inside Luxembourg airport?
The airport's website doesn't advertise one in the terminal. There are hotels in the commune of Sandweiler, where Findel lies, which STATEC counted at 3 in 2025.
Is it worth staying near Luxembourg airport?
Only for a flight before 8am or an arrival after midnight. Tram T1 links the terminal with Kirchberg, the Gare and Hamilius without changes and for free, so a city hotel is usually the better deal.
Can you sleep at Luxembourg airport?
The airport closes overnight from 11pm to 6am, but lets passengers with a ticket for a flight the following morning wait inside the terminal.
How do I get from Luxembourg airport to my hotel?
On tram T1 or buses 16 and 29, which run to the centre every 10 to 15 minutes, all free. Taxi fares aren't fixed, so ask the price before you get in.
How far is Luxembourg airport from the city centre?
The airport puts it 10 km from the central station; visitluxembourg says about six kilometres to the centre. By bus, around 20 minutes.
Does my UK phone work at Luxembourg airport without extra charges?
Not necessarily. The UK government notes that surcharge-free roaming in the EU is no longer guaranteed for British operators, so check your plan before you rely on it for transfer bookings.
