  • Bous-Waldbredimus is a commune in the canton of Remich, formed on 1-9-2023.
  • It has 3,368 residents in eight localities, set back from the Moselle.
  • In Bous, the Ierpeldenger Gipswee tells the story of gypsum quarrying.
  • Waldbredimus is the gateway to the cherry orchards of the Trintange valley.

Don't come here expecting sights, because none have an official listing. Come to walk in July, when the Trintange valley has its cherries and its festival, and sleep in Remich, a few minutes away.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 Most beautiful

    A valley of cherry trees

The regional tourist office sells Waldbredimus as the starting point for walks in the Trintange valley, known for its cherry and other fruit trees.

  2. 02 My tip

    A trail about gypsum

In Bous, the Ierpeldenger Gipswee traces the history of gypsum quarrying, the industry that shaped the village.

  3. 03 Getting there

    Base yourself in Remich

The commune lies inland, behind Remich and Stadtbredimus. For hotels and the river, Remich is the obvious base.

What I would book

Bous-Waldbredimus is the youngest commune in the Luxembourg Moselle valley. It came into being on 1 September 2023, when Bous and Waldbredimus merged on the same day as Groussbus-Wal, and those two mergers took the country down to 100 communes, a figure the Interior Ministry says hadn’t been seen since at least 1840. It had 3,368 residents on 1 January 2026 in eight localities.

Eight villages and a namesake

The official localities are Assel, Bous, Erpeldange, Ersange, Roedt, Rolling, Trintange and Waldbredimus. Watch out for Erpeldange, which shares its name with Erpeldange-sur-Sûre, a commune in the north next to Ettelbruck, as it’s easy to mix them up when you’re typing an address into the sat nav. After the merger the commune’s provisional seat stayed in Bous.

The commune sits inland, behind the riverside vineyards, between Remich, Stadtbredimus and Dalheim. It isn’t a place for monuments, and I’d rather be upfront about that, as I haven’t found any attraction here with an official listing beyond the walks.

Gypsum in Bous

The regional tourist office describes Bous as a pleasant place to live, mixing rural life with modern family housing, and gives it a tagline that says a lot, on the trail of gypsum quarrying. The Ierpeldenger Gipswee follows that quarrying history, which is what sets Bous apart from its winegrowing neighbours.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Remich before prices climb.

The cherry trees of Trintange

The other side of the commune is Waldbredimus, which the same office calls the cherry valley. It’s the starting point for walks in the Trintange valley, known for cherry and other fruit trees, and every July it holds a traditional cherry festival. I haven’t seen the next date announced, so I’d ask the tourist office in Remich before planning around it.

July, the month to come

Time your visit for the cherry festival and July hands you more on the Moselle. On the third weekend of the month Ehnen holds its Éiner Wënzerdag in the narrow lanes, and July also brings the Welleschter Kiermes in Wellenstein, which the regional office ranks among the most popular funfairs in the country. Cherries in the morning and wine in the afternoon makes for a well-rounded day.

One practical warning. The old Bous commune website says it is no longer updated since the merger, and the new commune’s site wasn’t responding when I checked, so for opening times and festival dates I’d rely on the tourist office in Remich.

Once your dates are set, check which hotels are still free in Remich before prices climb.

How it fits into a trip

I’d treat Bous-Waldbredimus as a half-day walk from Remich, where most of the river’s hotels are, or as a detour between the spa town of Mondorf-les-Bains and the Roman site at Dalheim, which is close by. Buses serve the villages and are free within Luxembourg, with timetables on mobiliteit.lu.

If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Remich and choose by the reviews.

A car frees you from timetables: search car hire in Luxembourg on DiscoverCars and compare companies.

So you do not pay over the odds, look at trains, coaches and flights to Luxembourg on Omio and pick the one that suits you.
