Food markets, flea markets and brocantes, Christmas aside
Luxembourg's markets, week by week
The easiest market to catch in Luxembourg is the Stater Maart, on Place Guillaume II every Wednesday and Saturday from 7:30 to 14:00. On Thursdays there's a market on Place de Paris, twice a month an antiques market on Place d'Armes, and on the third Sunday from March to November, except August, the Glacismaart. The Mullerthal has monthly markets too.

Full read: 3 min
- The Stater Maart fills Place Guillaume II every Wednesday and Saturday, 7:30 to 14:00.
- On Thursdays there's a producers' market on Place de Paris, in the station district.
- The Place d'Armes antiques market runs two Saturdays a month, from 8:00 to 18:00.
- The Glacismaart sets up on the third Sunday from March to November, except August, 10:00 to 17:00.
- Echternach and Junglinster hold monthly markets in the Mullerthal.
If you only have time for one, I'd go to the Stater Maart on a Saturday mid-morning, because it's right in the old town and doubles as breakfast. For rummaging, the Place d'Armes antiques market. And if your trip takes in a third Sunday, keep the morning free for the Glacismaart.

01 To save money
A market picnic in the old town
The Stater Maart sells fruit, veg, fresh cheese, spices and homemade jams. Buying lunch here and eating it on a bench costs a fraction of a terrace table in the Ville Haute.

02 My tip
When there's an event, the market moves
The tourist office warns that the city-centre market sometimes relocates to Place de la Constitution for special events. If it isn't on the Knuedler, look there.

04 My tip
Car-boot Sundays mean open shops
The tourist office says several city-centre shops open on vide-grenier days too. It's one of the few Sundays when you can combine a flea market with proper shopping.

My ranking, scored
Luxembourg's markets as I'd rank them
My score out of 10 for a visitor, weighing atmosphere, range of stalls, how easily it slots into a sightseeing day and whether it's worth planning a day around. My opinion, with the official details in front of me.

The second Wednesday of every month on the market square, in front of the Dënzelt. A good extra if you're already in the Mullerthal.
6.8 out of 10
Markets are one of my favourite things to do in Luxembourg City. They’re cheap, they’re on squares you’ll cross anyway, and they show you how the city actually lives. The tourist office puts it simply, saying there’s a market somewhere in town several times a week. This guide sorts them by day, with times, places and what you can buy, and leaves out the Christmas markets, which run to a different rhythm.
Midweek, fresh produce
The main one is the Stater Maart, the city market, held every Wednesday and Saturday morning on Place Guillaume II, known locally as the Knuedler, from 7:30 until 14:00. Expect fruit and veg, flowers, spices, fresh cheese, homemade jams and other artisan produce. One practical point worth knowing. If the square is booked for a special event, the market may move to Place de la Constitution, above the Pétrusse valley.
Thursday is Garer Maart day, same hours. It’s on the recently redesigned Place de Paris, halfway along avenue de la Liberté, and brings together about a dozen producers from the region selling oils and jams, honey and teas, sweets, Italian and Portuguese produce, household goods and clothes. If you’re staying near the station, this is your market. The tourist office also mentions neighbourhood markets in Bonnevoie and Kirchberg, though the page I read gives no times for them.
Saturdays for antiques
Two Saturdays a month, from 8:00 to 18:00, the Square Jan Palach side of Place d’Armes hosts the antiques market, with curios, collectables and the odd bargain. In October 2026 it falls on the 3rd and the 17th. For me it’s the most interesting flea market in town, because you needn’t be up at dawn and the square is ringed with terraces for a coffee break. If you want a souvenir with a story rather than another fridge magnet, I’d start here.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Luxemburgo for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
Sundays for car-boot finds and art
The Glacismaart is, to my mind, the capital’s most complete market. It sets up one Sunday a month, the third, from March to November (never in August), 10:00 to 17:00, on the Glacis car park in Limpertsberg, the very ground the Schueberfouer funfair uses. It mixes second-hand stalls with flowers, fruit and veg, Luxembourg specialities, clothes and homeware. The next one is on 18 October 2026.
The vide-grenier is the residents’ version, much like a British car-boot sale, where people sell what they no longer use. In 2026 it ran on 3 May and 6 September on avenue de la Gare, and the next is on Sunday 4 October on Place Guillaume II, from 10:00 to 17:00. Several city-centre shops open that day too, which makes it a decent Sunday for shopping.
That same 4 October, from 10:00 to 18:00, brings Konscht am Gronn, an art market on one of the bridges in the Grund. Up to 34 artists show painting, drawing, photography, glass, ceramics, digital art and work in wood, stone and metal. It’s more for browsing and buying a piece than for haggling.
Are there markets outside the capital?
Yes, though less often. In the Mullerthal, visitluxembourg lists two monthly markets. Echternach holds its market on the second Wednesday of each month on the market square, and Junglinster, with regional produce, on the last Saturday of the month. If you’re heading to Echternach on a Wednesday, I’d check first whether it’s the second of the month, because the stalls go up in front of the Gothic Dënzelt and the square looks far better for them.
Some markets appear just once a year. The Éimaischen, on Easter Monday, fills the old town’s Marché-aux-Poissons with pottery and the bird-shaped clay whistles; in 2027 it’s on 29 March.
If you are staying the night, see the best hotel deals in Luxemburgo for your dates: the well-placed rooms go fast.
What I’d buy, and what I wouldn’t
At the food markets I’d look for fresh cheese, homemade jam and honey to take home, and seasonal fruit to eat on the spot. At the flea markets, small curios that travel well in a suitcase. Don’t come expecting rock-bottom prices, though, because very little in Luxembourg is cheap. For other shops, opening hours and shopping centres, see my guide to shopping in Luxembourg. The December markets, which follow their own calendar, are covered in Luxembourg at Christmas.
So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Luxemburgo on GetYourGuide.
If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Luxembourg: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.
Before you fix your dates, compare tickets to Luxembourg: the same journey can cost very different amounts from one day to the next.
