  • Bernard-Massard is Luxembourg's largest family wine producer, almost 3.5 million bottles a year.
  • Its cellars are at 22 route du Vin in Grevenmacher, beside the Moselle.
  • Tours start at €8 and are free with the LuxembourgPass, glass of crémant included.
  • Book your tasting by phone, as the cellars host events.

If you like fizz, this is your cellar on the Moselle. The tour isn't the most dramatic in the valley, that's the St Martin galleries, but here you understand crémant as a product, made at scale. Ring ahead, because they host weddings and events and tastings fill up.

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 To save money

Tour and a glass on the LuxembourgPass

The pass covers the cellar tour followed by a glass of crémant. Without it, online bookings start at €8 as of September 2026.

  2. 02 My tip

    Book your tasting by phone

The cellars themselves ask you to book tastings by phone, because they host weddings and seminars. Out of season, tours are by appointment.

  3. 03 Worth the splurge

    Taste without the tour

You can taste with or without the tour in a room overlooking the Moselle, and the wine shop carries the full range from the group's estates.

There are dozens of cellars on the Luxembourg Moselle, but when the talk turns to crémant, Bernard-Massard is a name that comes up quickly. It’s the largest family producer in the country, bottling almost 3.5 million bottles a year, and it’s now in its fifth generation, according to its visitmoselle listing. Its home is in Grevenmacher, at the northern end of the vineyards.

A sparkling wine house on a big scale

Bernard-Massard makes still and sparkling wines by the traditional method. It has 42 hectares of vines and a long list of crémants, from the Cuvée de l’Ecusson, white and a Pinot Noir rosé, to the Cuvée Sélection, the Cuvée Chardonnay and a vintage cuvée. It also makes Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and a red Pinot Noir. What Luxembourg crémant actually is, and how it compares with other sparkling wines, is on Crémant de Luxembourg.

What the tour is like

It starts with a film and moves on through the historic cellars in Grevenmacher. There’s a tasting at the end, and you can also taste without the tour, in a room overlooking the Moselle. Online bookings start at €8 per person as of September 2026, and with the LuxembourgPass the tour and a glass of crémant are free.

The cellars flag one important thing. They host weddings and seminars, so they ask you to book tastings by phone. Out of season, tours are by appointment. I’d ring the day before even in high season.

Opening times by season

The shop and tastings change with the seasons. From April to October the shop opens Monday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00 and until 19:00 at weekends, and tastings run Wednesday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00 and until 19:00 on Saturday and Sunday. From November to March the shop opens Monday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00 and Saturday morning only, 10:00 to 13:00, closed on Sunday. There’s also a 100-cover restaurant.

Bernard-Massard or St Martin?

If you can only do one of the valley’s two big houses, here’s my take. Caves St Martin in Remich wins on setting, with its galleries in the rock. Bernard-Massard wins on product, because it’s a proper crémant house and the tasting with the river view is very pleasant. With the LuxembourgPass both are free, and ideally you’d do them on the same day along the Luxembourg Moselle wine route.

Getting there and what else to do

The cellars are at 22 route du Vin in Grevenmacher. There’s no railway station in town, so you come by bus from the capital, free inside the country. A few minutes away is the butterfly garden, open until 31 October 2026, and the Kulturhuef museum, free in the afternoons. As for taking bottles home to Britain, crémant counts towards the 9 litres of drinks up to 22 % that gov.uk allows instead of 4 litres of spirits, on top of 18 litres of still wine, per person.

So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Bernard-Massard cellars on GetYourGuide.

If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Luxembourg: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.

Before you fix your dates, compare tickets to Luxembourg: the same journey can cost very different amounts from one day to the next.
