Beckerich is a commune in the canton of Redange with 2,913 residents on 1 January 2026, spread over eight localities. Known for its mineral water and its commitment to renewable energy, its main sight is the Kulturmillen, a restored mill with an energy museum, gallery and brasserie. • Beckerich has 2,913 residents across eight localities in the canton of Redange.
  • The Kulturmillen is a restored mill with a free energy museum.
  • In Noerdange, a former station is now a regional railway museum.
  • The Jhangeli West Tour and the Beckerich tunnel are best done by bike.

I'd come to Beckerich by bike along the Jhangeli West Tour, pop into the mill's free energy museum and ride on to the station museum at Noerdange. If you've got children with you, the crank that lights a bulb will win them over.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 To save money

    A free energy museum

Individual visits to the Kulturmillen's energy museum are free; you book online to get in. Group visits are on request.

  2. 02 My tip

    Closed at weekends

In late September 2026 the Kulturmillen opened Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and was closed on Saturday and Sunday, according to visitluxembourg.

  3. 03 Getting there

    An old railway tunnel

The Sur les traces du Jhangeli route follows the former Attert railway and runs through the Beckerich tunnel, between Hovelange and Hobscheid.

    cycling in Luxembourg

Beckerich is one of those villages that made a name for itself with something not very touristy and then turned it into a reason to visit. The Guttland regional tourist office introduces it as known for its mineral water and its commitment to renewable energy, and the place that tells that story is a mill.

The Kulturmillen, a mill with a museum

The Kulturmillen is a beautifully restored mill that houses, among other things, an old sawmill, an energy museum, an art gallery and a brasserie. The association that runs it was set up in 2004 with two aims, cultural activity and heritage conservation, and puts on talks, exhibitions, concerts and workshops. The Millegalerie shows artists from Luxembourg and abroad.

The energy museum tells the story of energy in the commune, and individual visits are free, booked online to get in. Ninety-minute guided tours of the mill start at €85 per group. In late September 2026 it opened Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and was closed at weekends. Beside the mill, a garden with wooden sculptures remembers Camille Gira, a former mayor.

What else is in the commune?

Themed circuits leave from the mill, covering rural heritage, renewables, water and religious heritage, plus a bike route around the commune’s seven-plus-two mills. In Hovelange, an educational farm offers treks with alpacas. And in Noerdange, the former station is now a museum that visitluxembourg calls the country’s first devoted to regional railway networks, with a ticket window from the days of the Attert line.

By bike along the old railway

For me, Beckerich is best enjoyed on a bike. Two cycle paths, two regional cycle routes and the roughly 11 km Jhangeli West Tour all reach it. The family route Sur les traces du Jhangeli follows the old Attert line from Pétange to Ettelbruck and runs through the Beckerich tunnel, between Hovelange and Hobscheid, now part of Habscht, and there’s also a mountain-bike circuit of about 4.5 km through the tunnel for ages 10 and up. More routes are under cycling in Luxembourg.

Is it worth it?

If you’re curious about how a small village organises itself around energy, yes, and it’s free. I’d set aside ninety minutes rather than a whole day, and I’d come on a weekday, since the mill closes at weekends. To round off the afternoon, neighbouring Ell has the sculpture park of Colpach castle, open every day of the year. What I wouldn’t do is turn up on a Saturday counting on the museum, which is exactly when most people fancy a day out. Check the listing the week you go, as hours can change.

Getting there

No trains serve Beckerich, so you’ll need a car or a bus, and the bus costs nothing. It lies south of Redange and near Useldange, with its free castle, and those three together make a good day in the Attert valley.

So you do not lose the morning at the ticket office, browse tickets and tours in Luxemburgo on GetYourGuide.

If you would rather go at your own pace, see the car hire deals in Luxembourg: the earlier you book, the more cars are left to choose from.

Before you fix your dates, compare tickets to Luxembourg: the same journey can cost very different amounts from one day to the next.
