The Encamp Tibetan bridge, a family-sized suspension bridge

Plenty of people search for the Encamp Tibetan bridge expecting the famous 603 m span. This isn’t it. Encamp’s is a small suspension bridge up in the Cortals, and I think it’s worth saying so plainly from the start so nobody feels short-changed. That said, for a family with children it makes a very good day out.

What it is and where you’ll find it

Andorra Tourism lists it among the parish’s standout attractions. It sits in the Baronia area of Els Cortals d’Encamp, beside the village climbing wall and the Funicamp mid-station. It’s just under 50 m long and rises only a little over 4 to 5 m above the grass, so you cross without fear and children love it.

If you’ve seen photos of the Canillo Tibetan bridge, forget them. That one is 603 m long and reaches 158 m above the valley floor, charges for entry and is reached only on its official bus. This is a different scale altogether, and the appeal lies in everything around it.

How do you get to the Encamp Tibetan bridge?

Andorra Tourism gives two ways. By car, up the Cortals road to kilometre 8, level with the climbing wall, then roughly 400 m on foot towards the Deveses river. Or on foot as part of a hike in the area, which is what I’d do if you have half a day.

In summer the Funicamp adds a third. Its mid-station is right by the bridge, so you can ride up from Encamp without tackling the mountain road. In summer 2026 it ran from July to early September, with a single up at €11 and a return at €16; under-fives travelled free and clean dogs were allowed on board.

If you drive, stop first at the Cortals viewpoint, 1,923 m up the road. Its panels explain the stone barns and cortals you’ll see around the bridge, which gives the walk more meaning.

When to go

The bridge sits close to the Funicamp mid-station, which Andorra Tourism puts at 2,087 m, so this is high ground. I’d keep it for the snow-free months, roughly late June to September, when the road is clear, the picnic site is usable and the via ferrata is dry. In winter the area belongs to skiers.

Price and opening hours

Honesty time. The official page says nothing about tickets or opening hours, and no other official site I checked lists them, so I won’t quote a price I can’t check. Before you go, ring the Encamp tourist office on +376 731 000.

What to combine it with

You can cross the bridge on its own or as part of a longer route. Andorra Tourism suggests two ways to stretch the outing. First, the Clots de l’Aspra via ferrata, a few metres away, a beginners’ route adapted for children with 150 m of climbing and a second wobbly bridge just over 2 m long. My verdict

As a stand-alone sight, Encamp’s bridge doesn’t justify the trip. As part of a day in the Cortals, with a barbecue, the via ferrata and a stroll among the barns, it’s one of the cheapest summer outings with children in Andorra, since the via ferrata is free to use and the picnic site is common land.
