L'Aldosa de Canillo, Andorra's other L'Aldosa

If you’ve landed here looking for L’Aldosa, start by checking which one you mean. Andorra has two, and this is the Canillo one, a small settlement in the Valira d’Orient valley. I won’t sell you sights it doesn’t have, but I can tell you where it is and why it can work as a base.

Where is L’Aldosa de Canillo?

The Comú de Canillo lists L’Aldosa among the parish’s settlements, alongside Canillo, El Forn, El Tarter and Soldeu. According to OpenStreetMap, it sits on the CG-2 in the Valira d’Orient valley, between Canillo village and El Tarter, near the turning that climbs to Ransol. The main road is effectively its high street, and national buses L3 and L4 run along it.

Every autumn the Comú meets residents in the plaça de la font-safreig, the square with the village fountain and wash-house. For 2026 it was set for 7 October at 17:30. That sums the place up well, a residential hamlet with its square and its fountain, and no church with a tourist listing.

The other L’Aldosa, in La Massana

It’s easy to mix them up, because La Massana also has a village called L’Aldosa, one of those its council lists in the parish. If you see riding stables or apartments advertised in “L’Aldosa”, always check the parish, because the two are on opposite sides of the country.

What’s within easy reach

The appeal of L’Aldosa de Canillo is what lies around it. El Tarter gives you access to Grandvalira and a free car park with 350 spaces. The Ransol road takes you up to the Coma, where the Cóms de Jan hut is 50 minutes from the end of the tarmac. A little further along the same turning is Els Plans, where the path to the Vall del Riu lakes begins. And heading down towards Canillo you pass Sant Joan de Caselles, the Romanesque church I’d never skip.

The parish also has an H2O circuit of fountains, troughs and wash-houses, with a guide and map that Andorra Turisme recommends as a different way of getting to know the area. If you’re staying here, it’s a pleasant afternoon’s wandering.
