Andorra la Vella's National Bus Station

Almost anyone reaching Andorra without a car passes through one building, the National Bus Station in Andorra la Vella. It’s where airport coaches from Toulouse and Barcelona pull in and where much of the national bus network starts. Here’s where it is, what’s inside and what to do with your bags while you wait.

Where is Andorra la Vella bus station?

The station sits on Carrer de la Cúria, with no street number, postcode AD500. It’s at the lower edge of the old town beside Avinguda Tarragona, where several national lines also stop. The Casa de la Vall and the old streets are a short walk away, and Avinguda Meritxell, where the main shopping street begins, only a little further.

Which coaches and buses leave from here

The station is the terminal for two separate networks, and it helps to keep them apart. First, international and long-distance coaches. Its website lists Andorra by Bus for Toulouse airport and Matabiau station, Andorra Direct Bus, Andorra by Bus and ALSA for Barcelona, including El Prat airport, Sants and Estació del Nord, Hife for Ax-les-Thermes, where the French trains stop, and several operators for Lleida, Galicia and Portugal. For a British traveller flying into Toulouse, Toulouse to Andorra has the fares, and Barcelona to Andorra bus does the same from El Prat.

Second, the national buses. Most lines stop at or beside the station, and the weekend Night Bus leaves from here on the hour. How each line works is in Andorra buses.

One exception catches people out. According to the station’s own website, the Andorra to La Seu d’Urgell line doesn’t call at the building. If you’re going to La Seu, or to Andorra-La Seu airport, find that operator’s stop before dragging your cases over.

Is there left luggage?

Yes, and it’s the most useful thing in the building. The station offers left luggage and ski storage, bookable online. I think it’s the best friend of your last day, when you’ve checked out in the morning, the airport coach leaves in the afternoon and you’d like lunch or some final shopping without hauling a case or a ski bag.

The rest of the list is what you’d hope for from a terminal built for waiting. Air-conditioned waiting rooms, information screens, free daily papers, vending machines, a tourist information corner, toilets including accessible ones, baby changing, a defibrillator and CCTV. I haven’t found the building’s opening hours published, so I won’t guess them.

National bus tickets in the same building

Inside is the office for the national regular lines, which opens 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday, and shuts on Sundays and holidays. It sells singles, returns and passes, including the shareable €12.40 ten-trip ticket. Arriving on a Sunday, you can pay on board or use the MOU-T-B app instead.

Coming from Barcelona airport

Andorra Direct Bus makes a single stop in Andorra before the station, in Sant Julià de Lòria outside the E.Leclerc, according to its own website. If you’re staying in Sant Julià, get off there and save the trip back from the capital. If your hotel is in Escaldes or further up, stay on to the end and pick up the right national line at the station. The return works the same way, so check where you board before buying.

Late arrivals and the Night Bus

If your coach gets in late on a Friday or Saturday, the Night Bus leaves from here on the hour until 4:00 towards Escaldes and Sant Julià, with other night routes to Canillo and to Ordino and Arinsal. The rest of the week you’ll get two departures at the very least, so a taxi may be simpler. The station lists staffed help and a phone line, +376 810 000, which is worth saving before you travel in case a coach is delayed.

How I’d use it

Arriving from the airport and staying in town, I’d simply walk to the hotel. Staying at a ski resort, I’d pick up the right national line from here, the L4 towards Pas de la Casa or the L5 towards Arinsal, after checking the winter timetable.
