Andorra in March, the best balance of snow and daylight

March is the month I recommend to anyone who asks me when to ski Andorra. The winter’s snow is still up there, the sun is warm by lunchtime and the February crowds have gone home. In 2027 it also brings two dates worth planning around and an early Easter. I’d split it in two halves.

March on the thermometer

The 1991-2020 normal mean for March on the valley floor is 6.8°C (44°F), almost three degrees up on February, going by meteo.ad’s monthly summaries. It’s the biggest jump of the winter and you feel it in the streets. Up on the pistes mornings are still cold, so your ski kit doesn’t change, but afternoons are longer and softer. Snow stays on the high peaks until early June, the tourist board says, and March comes straight after the snowiest quarter of the year, December to February. All three alpine areas run every day from 9:00 to 17:00 and plan to close on 4 April 2027, with Naturland’s cross-country trails open until the same date. Bright March days call for dark category sunglasses and strong sun cream, because altitude sun burns even when the air is cold.

First half, with the World Cup

On the 6th and 7th of March 2027, a Saturday and a Sunday, the Avet run in Soldeu hosts the women’s giant slalom and slalom of the alpine ski World Cup. Grandvalira points out it’s the seventh time the circuit has come to Andorra since its debut in 2012. If you enjoy racing, it’s a great excuse for that weekend, and it’s all in Soldeu Ski World Cup. If you don’t, I’d ski a different sector on those two days.

The group discount that the resorts withdraw in February is back from 1 March, another sign the pressure is off. A week later comes 14 March, Constitution Day and one of the four days a year Andorra’s shops close. When it falls at a weekend they open, and in 2027 it’s a Sunday, so a shopping afternoon that weekend is safe. The rest of the calendar, including the days that do close, is in Andorra public holidays. If you’re booking a short break rather than a full week, I’d aim for Monday 8 to Friday 12 March, after the World Cup crowds have left and before Kids Free fills the family hotels.

Second half, for families

From 15 March until closing day on 4 April 2027, Grandvalira brings back Kids Free. Book accommodation with at least four days of lift passes and each paying adult brings one 6-to-11-year-old along with no lift pass to pay. It’s online only, places are limited and it can’t be combined with other offers. For two adults and two children in that age band, it’s the strongest deal of the winter. Easter falls early

In 2027 Easter runs from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 March, and Easter Monday falls on the 29th. You can still ski, and Naturland throws open its lower area with the Tobotronc as well. On Easter Monday Encamp also celebrates the Diada de Sant Romà de les Bons, with mass, traditional songs and sardana dancing beside the Romanesque church at Les Bons. Good Friday and Easter Monday were public holidays in the 2026 calendar; the 2027 one hadn’t been published by September 2026.

For a British family, that makes the Easter break an unusually good ski week. The dates overlap with Kids Free and the snow is still there. Just book early, because I’d expect everyone else to spot the same thing. For every resort date, see Andorra ski season.

Fishing season opens

The tourist board sets the fishing season from mid-March to mid-November. There are controlled beats, catch-and-release stretches and a tourist licence for a few days that you apply for online. The native species is brown trout, and brook trout live in the high lakes, though in March the high mountains are still under snow. This month I’d only think about valley rivers.

Getting there and what to pack

Getting there means a flight to Toulouse or Barcelona, then a coach or a hire car. Winter kit stays compulsory into mid-May, so March doesn’t let you off. GOV.UK also warns that a GHIC won’t work here, so ski insurance is a must.
