Pas de la Casa weather, where to check it and how to read it

Few searches about Andorra come up as often as the weather in Pas de la Casa, and for good reason. It’s where people ski, where they shop and, above all, where getting there from the rest of the country means crossing the Envalira pass or its tunnel. I won’t give you a forecast here, because it would be out of date in hours. Instead, here’s where to find it, why it’s a different climate up there and what to do with the information.

Where to check the weather in Pas de la Casa

The official source is meteo.ad, the government’s National Weather Service. Its front page shows any weather warnings in force and a forecast broken into morning, afternoon and night, and its station network includes one in the village itself, El Pas de la Casa, at 2,120 metres, which runs only in winter. Close by are Grau Roig, at 2,152 metres, also winter only, and Envalira, at 2,510 metres, which reports all year. Each station page shows live temperature, wind and snow depth.

For skiing, Grandvalira’s weather page is the most practical. For the Pas de la Casa sector, whose top reaches 2,606 metres, it gives the low and high, wind, how deep the last snowfall was and when it came, the avalanche danger level, visibility, the state of the snow and the open runs and lifts. Why it’s a different climate up there

Andorra’s climate reference station, run by FEDA on the valley floor, is at 1,135 metres. The Pas de la Casa station is at 2,120. That’s almost a kilometre of height, and in the mountains it changes everything. Based on meteo.ad data, the normal mean temperature on the valley floor is around 3°C in January and 19°C in July. For Pas de la Casa the weather service publishes no monthly averages, and I’d rather not guess. It’s safe to say, though, that it’s a good deal colder than Andorra la Vella, it snows earlier and the snow lasts longer. For the rest of Andorra, see Andorra weather.

The tourist board sums up the high-mountain pattern. Snow arrives in the high mountains around November and hangs on into early June, with the heavy falls between December and February. In the 2026-27 season the lifts are due to start turning on 4 December and to stop on 4 April, snow permitting.

The Envalira pass, the key to getting there

If you’re coming from Andorra la Vella, Encamp or Canillo, the weather that really matters is on the pass. The Envalira pass tops out at 2,408 metres, nearly 300 metres above the village weather station, and it’s the highest point of the drive. The alternative is the Envalira tunnel, which comes out near Grau Roig and cuts out the highest stretch. Andorra requires chains or winter tyres everywhere from 1 November to 15 May, and the UK Foreign Office repeats the rule. If you’ve hired a car in Toulouse or Barcelona, check it’s equipped before you set off. See the village before you go

Webcams beat any sun or cloud icon. Grandvalira has one Pas de la Casa camera high up, at 2,540 metres, and another lower down, at 2,100. If the top one is in cloud and the bottom one is clear, the problem is on the peaks rather than in the village. They’re all gathered in Andorra webcams.

And if you’re staying several days, think about sleeping up top. In Pas de la Casa you wake up on the snow and never have to cross the pass in the morning, which is when an overnight snowfall would otherwise catch you out.
