Bici Lab Andorra, the capital's bicycle museum

In a country whose climbs hosted a stage of La Vuelta on 25 August 2026, starting and finishing in Andorra la Vella, a bicycle museum makes sense. The Bici Lab opened in 2022 in the centre of the capital, and it plays with an idea I love. Ride there and you don’t pay. Here’s what’s inside and who I’d send.

A museum that wants you to join in

The tourist board presents it as a place to experience the bicycle as sustainable transport, healthy living and an economic engine. It covers 1,700 m² in the middle of the capital, with permanent and temporary exhibitions that make the bike the star of an ever-changing story. The official listing stresses that visitors are at the centre of the experience and take part throughout.

What stands out is how hands-on it is. There’s a simulator recreating a bike-park descent and several virtual-reality experiences. For non-riders I think that’s the most useful part, because it shows you why so many people drive up to Andorra with a bike on the roof. What’s in the Bici Lab collection?

The Riberaygua collection, put together since the 1980s, which the tourist board counts among the most important in Europe. It spans more than a century and a half of the bicycle’s mechanical and social history, and the Andorra la Vella tourist office mentions pieces from 1830 to today. The visitandorra listing goes further, calling it one of the best collections of classic bikes in the world. I’ll settle for Europe, the more cautious claim.

Much of the collection is out of sight. It’s kept in a visitable store, Ali Baba’s Cave, opened to the public at certain times of the year. There’s also a media library for digging into the collection and a multi-purpose space for the country’s cycling clubs and businesses.

The temporary exhibition, free

Until 4 April 2027 you can see «Un negocio sobre ruedas» (a business on wheels), which the official events listing dates from 23 March 2026. Temporary exhibitions are free according to museus.ad, so you can look in even if you skip the permanent display.

Who I’d send

Keen cyclists first, obviously, and not only for the free entry; the collection is the real draw. Families next, because the simulator and virtual reality hold children’s attention far longer than glass cases do. Couples on a shopping weekend who’ve had enough of Avinguda Meritxell by the second afternoon would do worse. The one group I’d steer elsewhere is anyone with a single day in Andorra la Vella, who’ll get more from Casa de la Vall and Santa Coloma.

Hours and prices

From April to October it’s open every day except Monday, 10:00 to 18:00. Through the colder months, November to March, it shuts on Sundays too, opening Tuesday to Saturday with the same hours. Mondays are closed all year.

The permanent exhibition costs €5 and the concession €2.50, according to museus.ad on 28 September 2026. Free entry goes to under-10s, youth card holders, disabled visitors and, best of all, anyone arriving by bike. The two official sites disagree on over-65s, so if that’s you, ask at the desk. There are guided and self-guided visits, evening visits and a shop, and the building is fully accessible.

Fitting it in

It’s at Carrer Prat de la Creu 70, in the centre, a few minutes’ walk from Plaça de la Rotonda. In summer 2026 the capital’s tourist office ended its guided walk through the shopping streets and old town here, and I think that pairing works. I’d combine it with the Andorra la Vella old town and Casa de la Vall on the same day; the two museums together come to €10 per adult.

If you’ve brought a bike, make the most of it. The tourist board says the Bici Lab ties into Andorra’s natural appeal for cycling, and the country has climbs with their own route pages, from the Coll d’Ordino to La Comella, the latter close to the capital.
